I have heard rumor that you have revoked the Contract of Barak Tor from the Stoutheart Clan and given it to the clanless dwarf Tagnar Rockcrusher.

It is a bit bewildering that we who have worked so hard to keep this area safe and to devlop its defenses would have this duty and honor taken from us without notice or fanfare.

Is this nonsense true?

We have been enacting regular patrols to clear the area of flying Chosen and undead Beholder-Kin, and to my knowledge none have broken free from Barak Tor to the streets of Upper. Also, we have developed the Post House now named the Hold considerably to serve as temporary quarters in our battles against the strong monsters that regularly spew forth from its depths.

I would like to meet with you if this is true. Otherwise, it is nonsense spoken from the mouth of a liar and betrayer.

I am quite excited about rallying the Clan to help assist with clearing the humanoid scum from Lower, but Councilor Noye of Lower has informed me that he is attempting to have them removed peaceably to avoid further conflict and even war in Lower.

The question of legality of the Stoutheart Clan entering Lower and slaughtering a group of former slaves, albeit non-humans, gives me pause somewhat. Especially as the reputation of my Clan is under attack by unscrupulous individuals, and this would be just the thing for them to use against us to further sully our good name.

I would like a written order authorizing the Stoutheart Clan to enforce this new law, and the use of deadly force, signed by two Council Members and the Sheriff. We thank you for giving us this opportunity, but I wish to be sure we will not face unpleasant legal consequences for once again attempting to do the right thing.

On another issue, the mage Sahern Mumford attacked me and my Clan with fireballs and multiple magical missles nearly slaying us all while we fought the Chosen in Barak-Tor. I have submitted a complete report to Sergeant Sannen.

Finally, I would like to know if Sergeant Fawkes confirmed that he has indeed received two separate payments of 1000 coin, in affect accepting a month's advance on our rent payment at Barak-Tor. I do not wish this issue to remain unclear and for him to seek to use it against us. Numerous reports have made their way to my ears that it is his goal to have us removed from the contract.
