i didn't know where to put this

okay.. ooc we all know that digging in the trash can yield some pretty cool magic items... but.. really people.. those that have bean in sancuary for awhile now.. unless they are playing beggers or scrounges.. really should not be sitting outside the rock bottom digging in the trash... i have seen a **purposely un-named** paladin digging in the trash... full plate and all.. i know some stuff is cool.. upon first arrival my neutral evil ex-slave bard i feel was justified in looking in the trash because he was not used to merchants doing buisness.. i was stunned to see BANDED MAIL +1.. which he could not use and i sold to a group of pcs.. my point... please play your character.. i've seen people calling other pc's beggers and tramps etc.... only to go dig in the trash themselves.... c'mon guys... i know it's fantasy... but be real :)

or is there a way to just delete the trash treasure spawn if people cant play there characters...... of course now i know that EVERYONE will be making some sort of justification for there 6-10 lvl whatever to be digging in trash... oh well

It's not a treasure spawn, PCs actually dump items in there to keep the player economy flowing

I dont think we regularly give out banded mail +1 anyways around here.

ok.. i suppose the point that i was trying to make was that people need to play there characters... would the 6+level character in full plate or with every spell he needs REALLY be digging in the trash...or should that character that feels himself above others be doing the same.. ooc they know you can get some decent stuff.. but ic there charactersshould not even be touching the trash.. and i will see 4 or five people walk by numerous times JUST TO CHECK IT.. it was more of an ooc vs ic point.. and yes... I WAS STUNNED when i saw the armor.. only wish i had bean playing a fighter type.. but oh well

Just as a point to be thought about - People going past the trash and 'digging in' might just be dumping something they don't need so someone else can pick it up.

I've played characters who would take from the trash pile and characters who wouldn't. I don't care if I'm a level 20 paladin, if it's IC to look in the trash pile--and it usually is, if for no other reason than to check for random necromantic items--I'll do it. I'll even take a powerful magic item to keep it from falling in the hands of evil PCs. Same thing IRL (except for the evil stuff)--can you honestly tell me you wouldn't reach into a pile of junk (not rotten food and excrements) to pick up $50?

Just because your god saw you fit for a higher purpose it doesn't mean you can't get dirty once in a while.

okay,, if I KNEW $50 in a trash.. in a heart beat... but going around town checking garbage cans and dumpsters on the off chance that maybe i find $50 bucks..... and THATS what people are doing.. now if someone said to the paladin "i know that a necromancer put an evil item in the trash" by all means... but i am pretty sure... no.. positive.. that people do it for the ooc reason of finding ggod stuff.. then when people like me question... they try to justify..... my point.. which everyone keeps missing evidently.. is that if you have no IC reason to check the trash you should not.... and paladins... since it was brought up.. have a lot more REAL and DEfinate things to consider.. like invading drow.. the slave traders etc.... if you want to rp that is... if you just want to get cool stuff for your character..... well then nothing is stopping you from "dumpster diving" while real and definate evil surrounds you.... please... just understand the post for what it is.. everyone keeps saying this is an RP server and that things are to be done/said.. in character.... it just annoys me that these same people take advantage of "hot spots" that there characters really have no buisness going to... it is very much like the warning in the efu rules about "hunting" a spawn point for particular monsters for treasure drop... same basic idea here... anyway.. i can see that everyone is going to defend there character looting the garbage because they dont want to miss out on the tresure trove they dont have to work for.... but just a friendly word.. if your doing that.. dont get mad at the neutral evil character that loots bodies and then does not share with the part... because that IS playing that character in general... that s all i go to say about that... someone can lock this.. i am done... i have seen what people are really here for

If you knew IC that people had a tendency to drop £50 into a certain pile of rubbish every now and then, would you check it regularly?

I do get what you mean, though.

How about, you worry about playing your character, and stop losing sleep over other peoples' motivations for THEIR characters' actions. Really, it takes away a lot of stress when you stop being suspicious that everyone around is somehow getting a leg up on you and just play the game.

Also, it might be that your IC dumping something and "notice something shinie"

Or really. If they pick up stuff in the trash, laugh at them and point them with your finger about how they are garbage eater. Do something about it IG rather than OOC.

The point i would like to make is that the only way for an item to get into the trash is for a player to put it in there... The items just don't appear by yourself, so how do you know that every player that you see is not doing that, after a quest you do get left with items you may not want and it's a good place to put things for people who want them.

Snoteye I've played characters who would take from the trash pile and characters who wouldn't. I don't care if I'm a level 20 paladin, if it's IC to look in the trash pile--and it usually is, if for no other reason than to check for random necromantic items--I'll do it. I'll even take a powerful magic item to keep it from falling in the hands of evil PCs.

It's amazing what paladins can do to justify their behaviour isnt it :) They dont even think that that powerful magic item may fall into the hands of the destitute, or goodly person and benefit someone they would deem worthy.

It's sad that you cannot just as a paladin, donate an item to a player because you are a decent person, and you can see they are in need of something to protect them in this dangerous place. I'm sure this behaviour would be quickly chastised as being a possible imbalancing rort , I've seen paladins SELLING items for their own profit, but giving away things? nope.

Putting things in the trash pile is the easiest way of doing that, though. I mean, when I found a svirfneblin flamethrower I instantly thought of Maelstrala, and kept it for her until I saw her. When I found a spear of infestation of maggots that I couldn't carry cos I was already encumbered, I put it in the trash so that someone else might find it and use it. Or the shield of prot from outsiders. You can wander around for hours trying to find someone who wants it, or you can just put the damn thing in the trash and let some lucky git suddenly become very very well off.

Or you could just use one of the million black barrles all around town.

Um, no, not to destroy it. I meant ways of passing things on to other people without having to walk up to every person in sanctuary saying 'hello, would you like a small shield that protects against acid? How about a charged dagger? Rat helm?' If you don't have the time or energy to do that but don't want to see the item destroyed because it would be useful to someone, particularly a noob, then the trash is perfect because IC everyone knows that that is the spot to put things you don't want, and that sometimes people don't want their bastard sword of +3 vs undead or their halfplate of healing.

Make a law against littering, solves the problem.
