The Journal of Rahmun Manth

I have finally come to accept the inevitable. Unless I act, I am going to die. All of my brilliant discoveries will mean nothing.

I will not allow myself to die. Even after my mortal shell decomposes, my legacy will endure through this journal. In time, I only hope that this text is buried with me so that, when I replace my revered mantle for a burial shawl, a successor might assume that mantle, and in the shadow that was Rahmun Manth, continue my work through the words contained in this book.

But be wary, reader. These pages are to be treated with reverence. The power over life can be a force for the good of all, but in the hands of the incompetent, reckless and the unworthy, can do incalculable harm. Show wisdom and caution. Remember the oaths you took when you accepted the mark, and obey them always. If you do this, you will prosper in the way of my lore.

You will be a god, free to mold the world into whatever form you desire.

The Twenty-Six Foci of the Artisans

Despite the elegance of our art, the magic of transforming life can be broken into twenty-six different magical signals.

Twenty-two of those magical signals are of the Somatic Series. They are used entirely for the purpose of magical testing on fully-developed organisms, and produce extremely temporary effects. Fortunately, mastery of the Somatic Series is relatively simple – it requires the caster to apply one signal at a time, fluently moving between members of the Series, lest the spell be cut awkwardly short, requiring one to start over from the beginning. The more adventurous might try applying two or possibly even three different signals at once, in one, two and three-prime forms, allowing for greater speed and efficiency, but requiring far more concentration, and carrying an elevated risk of failure.

The Somatic Series is as follows:

Sibaz Pr: 849 Um: Green Zo: 0 deg.

Quibbit Pr: 118 Um: Blue Zo: 1 deg.

Efron Pr: 472 Um: Blue Zo: 2 deg.

Raztad (ALL Somatic sequences begin with this) Pr: 530 Um: Blue Zo: 3 deg.

Tasher Pr: 795 Um: Blue Zo: 4 deg.

Fidal Pr: 773 Um: Blue Zo: 5 deg.

Jahsvog Pr: 175 Um: Green Zo: 6 deg.

Mythrov Pr: 835 Um: Blue Zo: 7 deg.

Occul Pr: 658 Um: Green Zo: 8 deg.

Nymlu Pr: 966 Um: Red Zo: 9 deg.

Krakor Pr: 863 Um: Green Zo: 10 deg.

Azul Pr: 615 Um: Green Zo: 11 deg.

Innae Pr: 641 Um: Blue Zo: 12 deg.

Bocchar Pr: 168 Um: Red Zo: 13 deg.

Carnam Pr: 162 Um: Blue Zo: 14 deg.

Daccuz Pr: 624 Um: Blue Zo: 15 deg.

Ghaaztur Pr: 195 Um: Red Zo: 16 deg.

Holaj Pr: 781 Um: Blue Zo: 17 deg.

Librox Pr: 489 Um: Blue Zo: 18 deg.

Phobcli Pr: 554 Um: Red Zo: 19 deg.

Urai Pr: 165 Um: Green Zo: 20 deg.

Veris Pr: 223 Um: Blue Zo: 21 deg.

The other four foci are of the Final Series. As the name suggests, these signals are normally the final stage of any research project. For reasons which we can only begin to fathom, the Final Series signals only work on the reproductive organs and discharges of sexually mature organisms, or unborn young in their earliest stages of development. Providentially, the organisms which result remain permanently in the designed state, and have the ability to give birth to organisms with the same traits.

Signals of the Final Series are the most difficult to use – they require the Artisan to focus on three signal types simultaneously, on the SAME prime (generally 1’). An Artisan operating on different primes simultaneously, using the Final Series, is theoretically possible, but unheard of as of yet. Even with focusing rituals, the greatest of our minds can struggle with the simplest of implementations.

The four signals of the Final Series are as follows: Whiru Pr: 031 Um: Black Zo: Unmarked

Xanth Pr: 032 Um: Black Zo: Unmarked

Yttris Pr: 041 Um: Black Zo: Unmarked

Zordir Pr: 042 Um: Black Zo: Unmarked

Translation from the Somatic to the Final Series is a simple task, and allows for some measure of flexibility. A single member of the Somatic Series can be replaced by three members of the Final Series:
