Cheaper books

I really love the books you guys made, really amazing material. But asking 200 - 300 gp for a book is a bit too much in my opinion. I think it would be more reasonable if were around 30 - 50 gp or so. Unless there is some high purpose in this.

I like that dumb books are cheap and fancy ones are expensive. It makes me feel special when I save up the money to buy the neat ones. But maybe I'm just a big dork.

Just do what I do at book stores.

Go there, read the book, but don't buy it.

<_< >_>

Shut up Inquis! You are going to get us busted.

that was me, didn't know i wasn't logged in, haven't been around for a while :-P

Actually, books can be made of vellum too. Vellum is fine parchment made from calfskin, lambskin, or kidskin and used for the pages and binding of books. There are even some books that are made entirely from human skin vellum. Vellum was frequently used in the dark and middle ages, a long time before paper became readily available.

I imagine that most books in the Underdark are made in Rothskin vellum. More expensive books may be made from rarer forms of vellum or plant matter, but there are probably few if any paper books in Sanctuary.

I can even imagine paper being made from tightly pressed fungus. Or even a Papirus concept. But I'm not expert, so I only make this reply to increase my post account. But still, it might house some truth to it? In that case, book would be cheap, seeing fungus is widely available.

Guys. Read the sign of the shop.

RARE BOOK SHOP

LMAO, good for pointing that one out!

I think it's still fair to assume that ALL books are rare. Resources are scarce, and that Rothe leather is put to much better use than the creation of "How to Train Rothes" (although it's a very nice read!).

On the other hand, buying potions of cure serious wounds cost about 55-75 at a fiar price, so buy 3 potions that can save your life, or buy a book that will add weight and give you a a minute or two for a good read?

I'd say about 50-100 lions gold coins is most fair, not cheap, but not terribly expensive either.

On a side note, an Oghman character that acted as a walking library would be interesting, I'm pretty sure there's an Oghman or two around. Phear the late fees, pay or be smited! Heck, there's a chance for an Oghman paladin/fee collector there!
