This is hung on the spectator's box of the Arena in Upper Sanctuary:
- Recent Combat
Let it be known for the sake of clarity the events which transpired in the Sanctuary Arena on the Twenty-first of Eleasis, One-hundred and Fifty-one years since our founding.
Tuur, as a representative of Clan Stoutheart, accepted a challenge by Chkthel, Duergar of Tel Enterprises, for armor and honor. Chkthel knowingly allowed Varlam Nikitovich to dispel his enchantments, blessings or potions, asking that Tuur be allowed to keep his blessings of the Earthmother, delivered through Thane Stoneshield. After a count of five and "engage!", they traded blows, and Chkthel was downed.
Each combatant was restored in health by the Thane, and Chkthel issued a second challenge, the armor he still wore but which was now Tuur's, against the sum of One-thousand gold coins. Tuur's blessings were removed by the caster Tor, and after a count of three Tuur and Chkthel engaged. Despite Tuur's taunts, he was brought against the wall of the Arena pit, across which he supported himself a quarter's way around. Eventually, Chkthel obstructed the view of Tuur for those directly behind him. Those spectators included Thane Stoneshield, a member of the Stoutheart Clan, and Varlam Nikitovich.
From this view it seemed that Tuur was incapable of fighting, while Chkthel's attacks, both verbal and physical, became more heated. The Thane and clansman entered the Arena, what they thought necessary for the life of Tuur. This was regarded as a hostile action by the Duergar, who struck at Thane Stoneshield. With the assistance of creatures called from outside the arena, a deep spider and a stone lizard, the two Stouthearts incapacitated Chkthel while attempting to restore the most obviously dazed and disoriented Tuur.
Please, in all future combat held within the Arena, clearly establish conditions of challenges and mutually appoint a judge. Impatience in the heat of things have created a somewhat confusing and unpleasant case. Additionally, each combatant or representing party should make one, and only one, sending concerning the outcome of Arena combat. Further sendings will be considered misuse of the system and law enforcers will be petitioned to revoke sending privileges of abusers.
