One of the more common questions we get asked is, "My character/my group would like their own faction area, how do we do that?"Since it's asked so much, I thought I'd address it here.
Basically, there's a number of different ways you can get your own territory.
(1) Send in an application for it -- with a really solid application with an awesome idea, we may well be so enthused with the idea that we'll help you build it straight away. Or, we could look at the application and say, "Sounds good, now work for it IG." Either way, this is a good idea to let the whole DM team know what you're working towards. Sending in an app for this kind of perk (or any perk) is recommended, but it's possible to still claim territory without an app.
(2) "Claim" territory. There are lots of secret caves, abandoned buildings, and other areas that were essentially designed to be fought over by different PC groups, or at the least be available for use. If you claim some territory, and follow through with it IC, after some time has passed and the DMs see evidence of the fact that a particular area has been "claimed" by this group that's doing neat things, we're open to making adjustments or changes.
(3) Buy property -- occasionally, property will be for sale (or rent) or available as part of a plot. Additionally, property can IC be purchased from former owners or the Council. Please understand that a letter to the Council asking to buy some property is probably insufficient for actually getting something added to the module. Convincing the Council (particularly PC councilors) is a good first step, but if an area is going to be added the DM team still needs to be convinced OOC that the addition will be good for the server.
