Magic eaters slaying parties

I like the insecurity of using magic in unwarded areas. It is a nice touch that a couple of the uber dispellers can teleport in and rough things up a little.

A possible problem can be lowbie / weak parties though. Two times today I experienced a mageling summon a couple of the fellas right on our location and in the second instance she recast a spell, causing two more to drop by.

Now, with lesser eaters having ab 7 or 8 and a fair damage dealing potential, I can see how these bad boys can lay waste to entire parties of new characters questing, perhaps dropping in while the would-be heroes are fighting some other villianous creation.

Is it going to be rough and tumble and everyone should prepare to die to eaters any hour of the day or is adjustment worth considering?

I know that. You know that. But the new player might not.

Edit: And my character certainly wouldn't know.

Maybe more warning should be placed in-game to show that magic eaters are a real threat, but I see no reason why PCs cannot pursue that goal of education.

They are meant to be a real danger that characters deal with on an everyday basis. There are several ways to avoid their attention as well, best found in game.

If you think people aren't aware enough of the threat, make them aware!

I'll sleep better knowing that.
