I have been talking a bit with a few people about what constitutes wealth on the server.
This leads me to a simple question, what is the most coin any of your characters has ever had, rounded down to the nearest thousand?
To prevent spoilers, dont say which character or when, or anything that might get you mugged.
If you are still shy, then log yourself off, and post as a guest, for total anonymity!
Even if youve never had a great wad, I would love you to post anyway, so that the average maximum amount can be estimated.

about 3 to 4 thousand once. Before that 1000 has been best.

3,000 gold that was Varlam's; then he died a few times. He's carried reward gold before that was quickly distributed though, totalling 5,000 or so.
My other characters have never even hit the 1,000 mark, including Krian who was several months old.

I had 40k right before one of my characters raised Tommy. <_<;
I tend to get to 10k, and then start to spend ridiculous amounts on consumables. I think the gold level's pretty good, really. There's a lot of stuff you need to buy in order to be a successful adventurer but you can still turn a profit even at high levels.

For me, 2000 gold is the most I have had at one time. But if a friend needs a new pair of shoes, I will go out and buy him some. Mind you, I won't buy him the +4 Nike with haste, but I will make sure his feet are warm.
As for the evil characters that do nothing but lust for money, I stay well away from them. I have heard too many stories like, "So I was down in the crypt, and Argyle Skullsmasher beat down Angelheart Goodchild. Yes, they were both in the same party. And after Argyle killed Angel, he ate her corpse and took all her stuff."
Your reputation is more important than all the gold in all the world. And its just too bad that the City Watch is so corrupt. Would be nice to see a few murderer hang. Oh! And burn the corpse.
Maybe if there were more Palidins around to point out that the guy in the corner with the necklace made from halfling ears is a bad guy, we wouldn't have this problem.

The most I have ever reached was 4000, though that was due to the fact that my little halfling almost never had to rent rooms, buy herbs ect, since all his buddies would heal him for free, and the only supplies he needed for quests were bolts...so in short, he had more money than he knew what to do with.

Since I've lost my in-character means to say this...
Use your gold guys!
That is one striking thing that I had tried to correct with good ole' Genevis- literally, the IC and IG adventuring gear economy is as thin as paper. Aside from potions (which is actually a fairly decent little market!) and (at times) wands, there is very little merchant-character retention. With such a huge need for equipment and trinkets just to survive in the harsh world of EfU, it's very perplexing as to why people are so uptight with their gold.
Final notes: Gold will (almost) never save your life, but that little trinket-doohicky-device, new and better equipment, etc. just might!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most ever was 2500ish? That was on Genevis Ward, but the funds were part of the big gladiator event and stuff.

Untrue. I have an alternate character right now with over 10k, and he's only level 5, He's never PVP'd, and not a merchant in any sense of the word.
Also, with Borijin, I had 5k within my first 4 hours of playing him through some lucky happenstances.
Finally, someone who will remain nameless blows me out of the water for gold, and he rarely PVP's. One of his characters was the source of much of Zau's gold.

Staying under level 5 and quest spamming the big gold ones for 300 a piece can also result in sums of 4-5k, which is what one of my characters had.
Another source are also small groups who know their stuff who spam the same quests with the best gold/risk ratios.
It's all about being smart, or manipulating the system, or PvP!

Six thousand.
Then I hit a level where I started having to buy more healing than I could make money. Eventually landing on 3848 gold coins at my demise, or something close to that.

at this point you should be using the gold to pay other PC's to do your dirty work and get other involved in your plots..

Having reached over 20k with more than two characters, I would like to say something here, to help dispel this idea that 'gold is useless' - you can buy -anything- with gold. From information from your favorite NPC to real estate. It's just a matter of imagination. Furthermore, if you are a wand user, but not a spellcaster (ranger, or a rogue with high UMD, for example) you will find that there is a limitless amount of wands you can buy. It's -fun- to buy wands, man. It's just fun. Or run around the module, find eery shops with expensive stuff in them, and buy that. Gold is useful.

Look!

I'm a freakin' nerd.
However, I just did this to point out something for people thinking gold is too easy/hard to come by.
What seems to happen is a little gold isn't tough to get. Most people have between 2 and 5 thousand. What happens is that people hit a critical mass at 20k and I expect are finding they have nothing to spend it on.
So the query is, what kind of gold sinks could people hitting the 20k mark want to see?
And:
Is it reasonable for players to gain 20k a pop just by being in the right place when the right character drops dead carrying this kind of treasure?

Kaen topped of somewhere around 3-4 K, and maybe 10 in loot.
I feel that a neat way to get more things for people to spend gold on, would be the possibility of...
Taxing!
Granted, some people have a lot and some people have a little, taxing should be done to change/adapt the module. I think that would be very interesting.
Expansions of territory, newer settlements, upgrade uniforms for the watch, more funding for social aid.
PC's could be formed into a tax-collection agency for the council, and would take regular notes of whom they tax.
Councilors can have different taxable plans, and if you don't pay, you go to jail. (Or in lower, are beaten and goods are taken to compencate)

The bank already has a great coin tax, (20% is a LOT)
I think, what about taxing for voting, it destroys the democracy, but, it will represent the citizen ship, if you can fund the city, don't expect to make a difference.
If one is in some authority faction (for example watch, spellgaurd, etc.), the tax will taken from the salary (If they get paid). Perhaps "discount" tickets (one per person) will be delivered to the associates and those who doesn't get paid. Also, citizens who are devoted to the city, etc.
It might be less democracy but more representing of the world.
(democracy? heh, never been, as far as I know, yet, I am not that knowing on the subject)
Yet, this probably should get decided IGly (and neither of my chars will suggest it ;) )
Also, the dms chose democracy for their own reason, I'm sure there is a reason for that (IG plot reason, most probably), so I trust them to decide.
