The noob has a suggestion. Panic!

Okay, this is something i thouht up whilst planing a character, loging in for negative three seconds only to find out that EfU has a familiar system altering stuff :cry: .

Obviously if you can change the familiar system you guys are awsome at scripting and stuff. Nerds... Can you make it that the switched familiars swap out to match alignments? Example: the chaotic NEUTRAL air mephits, if the player-character (PC) has an alignment opposing that of the chaotic neutral mephit or oppises the usaly-considered-evil mephits altogether they may have the choice of mephit of fairy.

The main reason i am begging for this is because i wonna faery dragon.

If you want a good aligned familiar then you will need to select the Shining Light, which replaces the Raven Familiar.

EfU is a hakless server, and because it requires no modifications to play they don't modify the .tlk file. The .tlk file is what contains the entries for spell listings, their descriptions, (which the modifications for those can be found here), as well as for familiars and animal companions. Many spells and such were changed to give a more Underdark Theme.

Thats what i have a problem with, the Shining light is the ONLY good aligned familiar.

True, but I think the reason for that is - there aren't that many "good" creatures to be found down in the Underdark.

Personally, I think it would be interesting for a good wizard who's desperate to survive to make a contract with a devil for aid and guidance to help keep him alive. Think Dr. Faustus, only in Sanctuary.

Are fairy dragons true dragons? if so i wouldn't want them. since who knows when a chromatic dragon might shw upp in Sanctuary

No, true dragons are Chromatic, Metallic, Gem, and Planar dragons. Lesser dragons, like faerie dragons, pseudodragons and dragon turtles, don't increase in power by age categories, and thus aren't true dragons.

As for the suggestion, I'm sort of against it. I like the familiars as they are now because I think the limited selection adds flavour. There are also no rules prohibiting an LG spellcaster from having a CE familiar, it's just a highly unlikely combination, and one that probably wouldn't last for long.

Bottom line here is that Im under the impession that it's not possible to add more familiars into the game without requiring haks. This means that the DMs get limited choices to determine what they want as familiars. So they naturally chose to go with creatures native to the underdark. Faerie dragons are not one of those creatures which are native to the underdark. Also as it happens, most creatures native to the underdark are neutral beasts or evil monsters.

Perhaps... Maybe Arkov could work up a system where items such as dog whistles or something similar could be used to summon different sorts of familiars and perhpas script the creature summoned to scale in HD with the caster. Then perhaps allow characters to apply for various different familiars. I for one always wanted to have a simple invisible servant as a familiar.

I always thought the Fairy Dragon to be a bit too powerful, so it suits me fine that it isn't availabe. And the Intellect Devourer is such an exquisite model. The Illithid know how to breed them!
