A letter addressed to 'Julian and Bern', left at the Beacon

Greetings to you both. You may remember me from your feast some days ago, and in the case of the honourable Julian, the trial last night. I wished to speak to you concerning your beacon, and the works of Ilmater. The dogma of my god states that we must go to the underdark and create places of safety and refuge for those in need. It appears that this was done long before I was born. We are also taught to respect those who follow Ilmater, for they do good work. I think the best way I can do as my Lord commands is to aid the two of you. My primary goal is, and always will be, to further the word of Ibrandul, and teach the citizens of Sanctuary to live safely and happily in darkness. However, if there is aught you need from me, even if it is only another pair of hands to feed the hungry, or one to heal your wounds, please do not hesitate to send for me. I will ask one thing in return; not money, for I know you have none, but that you ask those you aid to remember Ibrandul in their prayers, and send any who seem interested to me that I might teach them the ways and keep them safe. I apologise for the infomality of the address, but I knew no other names for you.

May the darkness guide and protect you.

Fuinnellethen of Ibrandul.

Fuinnellethen of Ibrandul:

I remember you from the Feast – I wanted to spend more time talking with you, but I couldn’t manage to get to your side of the hall.

Thank you for taking the initiative to write first. Please note, the Feast was sponsored by Julian, who is Ilmateri, but the Beacon is not solely an Ilmateri undertaking. Indeed, the Feast itself was the effort of roughly a dozen people, each with their own patron or patrons.

The Beacon is a place of shelter and learning for the people of Lower Sanctuary and the Canal. Indeed, most of the learning concentrates on how we can survive here in the Underdark.

Everyone is welcome to help the Beacon live up to its Charter. The Charter is written on the large white board between the door and the donation bowl.

In keeping with this Charter, all priests and philosophers are welcome to teach their beliefs. Since we’ve rearranged the furniture, the main room is especially suited to just that. Please be welcome. I try to attend sessions as I have the time.

Good dark,

- Bern.

*A copy of both letters is forwarded to Julian's office at the Town Hall.*
