Councilors of Sanctuary,
It is good and worthy of notice that many of you have begun your first terms, but all great things under the eyes of the Gods require a solid base to move from. I, by will of Dumathoin, off this base.
It is time to remove Sanctuary from it's reliance upon the Duergar for it's metals. A city of ex-slaves should no longer have to rely upon a race of slavers for it's survival. Let it do away with the merchants who supply weapons and armor to Lower and Upper. In time, let an end come to the Duergar miners who rob the stone of a bounty that is not theirs to claim.
I, Talhund Obryn Morunden, represent the Stoutheart Clan of the Underdark in this matter. I wish to see the Duergar presence removed from Sanctuary and in time, see Dwarves work the mines with pick and axe in their stead. Have Sanctuary be supplied by hardy and honest folk. Many find it an action of hypocrisy that Sanctuary makes this claim that they are a land of Freedom, while at the same time commit dealings with Duergar for something as simple as metal. A weapon comes in the form of anything, accepting Duergar steel is not a matter of necessity, but one of convenience. There is anoher way, and I will see it done.
I would ask Sanctuary's aid and cooperation in the matter, though.
Signed,
Talhund Obryn Morunden

Talhund Obryn Morunden,
What mines are you talking about, exactly?
Currently, Sanctuary has no other source than the mines which the Grunstubhles already have staked out. I can understand that perhaps you have not noticed a certain poster in the Town Hall - I myself had trouble seeing it, it was terribly high. The Council is currently seeking out any and all possible veins of ore, and is offering payment, and even contracts to mine, for anyone who might locate such a source.

To clarify,
I refer to the mines that Clan Grunstubhle "Claims". I do not object to a seperate source being found, it does not, however, address the problem and affront to the patron of my people when the Duergar rape and steal what is not theirs in the eyes of the Morndinsamman. My proposal has benefit to Sanctuary as well as benefit to my people, and that is the point of compromises such as these.

Talhund,
Currently their steel -is- a necessity. Until another source of ore is found for the Mikkelson family and the Stoutheart Clan to begin mining, we're going to have to rely on the Duergar Miners to outfit our Watchmen and other civil servants.
As far as forceful evacuation of the Duergar Miners and Merchants in our city goes, we've been over the details of this and I had thought you realized the folly the consequences of this action would provoke.
Anyhow. First things first. Find your Stouthearts a source of Ore and we'll work from there on getting rid of our reliance to the Duergar.

Councilor Castile,
If the Stouthearts find such a source, it will be the Dwarves and only the Dwarves who make use of it, I act only on the behalf of my people and if ex-slaves think it best to prove themselves hypocrites by gladly accepting wares already bloodied before being bloodied then I will do nothing to stop it.
Why should the Dwarves shed our life blood and make so much sacrifice on our own simply to rid this city of Duergar? If we are forced to find our own source of ore we will be the ones to reap the rewards and bounty offered by the Silent Keeper. -I- have few qualms about finding a source of ore and situating our people around it to survive from it, why should we do otherwise? I instead offer Sanctuary an alternative that might maintain some of it's integrity. Work with the Dwarves to do away with the Duergar and have them replaced in Sanctuary's active life. You are the one who proposed such action of boycotting and undermining their efforts of sale through tariffs before your election, Councilor Castile. Though now you seem to expect me to find an entire other source before you are willing to go through your plans. -That- was not discussed nor agreed upon.
I've little intention of taking an argument to quil and paper, and if you intend a response to argue any of this then I suggest you speak with me personally.
Signed,

Talhund,
I had thought a mine had been found, yet needed only to be routed free of hostile creatures that may lurk within. Once we get an alternate source of ore your proposals will have my full support. We'll speak soon.
Castile.

Talhund Morunden,
Have you obtained the information I asked for yet? We must consider the potential consequences if we make such a drastic decision.
