[Penned in thin but sprouty letters, with some blueish ink:] A report on the "Chosen Kidnapping in Rock Bottom". This is written by Oddmund Rapp, on demand of the watch Sergeant Salina.

Eleasis 9th The 151st year since the founding.

The events:

The Kidnapping A stealthy, probably my magical means invisible, chosen rat came into the Rock Bottom Tavern and snatched a baby from a young woman sitting on a round table next to the bar. Two adventurers drew weapon and went after in pursuit, swinging wildly.

The Chase Later on, I questioned these men. The names were Haeroth Olthalyn and Manten Daley, both staying at the Rock Bottom. They said they chased it into a portal, located on an alley just to the side of the watch building - next to a fountain. Entered, killing a "hundred" of the rats and their leader and returned the baby to it's mother.

They say some dark ritual was in the doings, but they apparently stopped it. Then they showed me the portal and excused themselves, saying they had 'a heap of gold coins to share'.

Aftermath I, Private Adella Sannen and a lady named 'Nel' went into the portal to check. It was a sinister place, not really a cave but more of something similar to deep gnome design. It was empty and vicious gas was leaking about the room, there was but a barrel of darts. There was a stairway that was blocked off and we returned through the portal.

A member of the order of spellguards was called to block off the portal. Upon which I was left to guard the portal for some time, a halfling woman named Merle came and healed some wounds I'd sustained from the gas.

I was then relieved by Private Sannen and Sergeant Salina, I went to get Spellguard Lathain. He went through it and studied it. During which I still guarded the portal. Then another spellguard Agent appeared, beat some magical rods at the ground and the portal disappeared.

It is my understanding that you seek to join the Watch. We found your report from the ninth very useful in providing evidence on another case. There is a follow up that I'd like you to conduct for us to prove your dedication to the Watch and its methods.

Some days after the event you reported, Manten Daley was discovered dead with the charred corpse of a baby in his pouch. Your report maintains they returned the kidnapped child to its mother, something is not accurate and I believe it was their statement.

Please look into two potential leads, Haeroth Olthalyn may know more than he was telling. Its likely a murdered child was left over from a previous ritual and Manten took that corpse for unknown reasons. Its also likely they failed to save the child and lied about returning it to its mother.

If that is the case, the child's name was Rob. I'd like you to find the mother and ascertain the health of her child. Please report back to me as quickly as you can.
