The first case is that I've noticed I have been having a hard time full deathing people with magic. Even if the encounter begins with my character in full death mode, I continually subdue, eventually going to blacked out, etc. Hitting them with melee weapons seems to do the trick, however.
Second oddity was seeing a trap recently kill two people, but actually subdue the third, complete with the *Subdued* message that appeared over their head. The trap did enough damage according to the console to kill that person, but that individual did not die.

I've had this problem while playing a wizard as well. Melee weapons did the trick, or doing a ridiculous amount of damage with a spell when they're nearly dead. Though I agree, it always did seem a little buggy.

The scripting functions that we're provided with by NWN are notoriously unreliable when determining who-killed-who, which makes subdual scripts somewhat difficult to design. Ours always prefers Subdual over FD in cases where it is ambiguous which one is happening; I think there's a fairly good argument that this is preferable to the alternative.
Unfortunately, that choice means that FDing people with spells or traps or grenades or other exotic tools may require a bit more effort.
