sorceror

i know that a sorceror use his charisma base to cast spells. But i read IG that a sorceror use his force of will to cast spells. so if ya char has crappy will but a high charisma he knows how to cast them but isn't able to?

In other words. is it will over charima or chairsma over wil for sorcerors?

In DnD, will is a save, not an ability - so the two are not related.

lovethesuit It's a subtle difference. I have a couple theories, actually, but they're only theories since none of it is set in stone.

Wisdom's willpower may refer to an inner strength in relation to the world around you. It's described as willpower, common sense, perception and intuition. Therefore, a person with strong Wisdom would be more difficult to sway or alter, either mentally, emotionally, or spiritually.

On the other hand, Charisma is an inner strength relating only to the self. It is described as force of personality, persuasiveness, ability to lead and physical attractiveness. All of these descripters can be related to confidence in one way or another. Charisma is the ability score that refers to how well-suited to their self a person is, if that makes any sense. That is to say, the higher the Charisma, the more apt the person is at being who they are, and the more comfortable they are in associating with others because of it. I'd imagine someone with a positive Charisma being somebody who's comfortable enough with their personality to adapt it without losing it. The reason Sorcerers take it is because they manipulate the Weave naturally, like an extension of the self that they are so comfortable with.

Wisdom is a still pond, and Charisma is a forceful gale. Wisdom allows for better communion with the gods (for Clerics), while Charisma provides a more kinetic direction of a person's will (for Sorcerers.)

( That's okay. You probably saw it was from me and went with the natural reaction. ^_^; )

*snickers behind tom's back*

Sorcerer - A mage who cast spells through sheer force of personality.... which does little to explain why those that play them are always the most profoundly dull people you'll ever meet. Most often found dead at the center of a sequence of ice storms that it cast at it's feet.

okay this is a cruel topic. LOCK IT

How long have you been playing AD&D thomas? Just out of curiosity. I started when i was about 6, first game was Baldurs Gate 2.

Youthful Nerdisum. Scary huh?

Truth be told. i am still getting the finer points of game play. only about 3 weeks ago did i fond out what was AC for. or that AB is the increase roll to hitting ya opponent.

Even then. i am still finding out the pro's and con's to each class.

so about a year for NwN

it took you that long to figure out what something called ARMOR CLASS is for... Same with ATTACK BONUS...

God have mercy on us all...

Naw, i was pissed off at the AC in NwN not working in negatives, my chars used to run around naked and die a lot...

Hey tom, i'm gunna PM you an idea i got.

Put a pencil on a table...now...try to move it with your mind....Focus! Make it move...Will it to move!

That's Force of Will's take on Charisma...

Now, you've probably realized it's stupid and not going to work...

That's wisdom

But...you almost felt like it was going to move, didn't you? Well, cease trying anyway, it's not going to work.

That's Willpower

Easy way to remember mental stats

Intellegence - Knowledge gained through study/natural intellect Wisdom - Knowledge gained through experience Charisma - How forceful you are are in regards to speaking, body language etc

it took you that long to figure out what something called ARMOR CLASS is for... Same with ATTACK BONUS...
It could take a while when the rules regarding it aren't written down anywhere in the game. In fact, I'm not sure it mentions attack bonus and AC at all, NWN was really made for people with experiecne playing p'n'p d'n'd (thats alot of abbreviations)

the guide book is worth shit. doesn't even tell you that initiative is the roll who decides who goes first. willpower is the thing that resists mind effecting spells. and reflex allows you to dodge certain spells and effects.

Now with the ac and ab.....i am ashamed

I worked all those out for myself. Whenever you attack, you roll initiative. When you get hit by a Mind spell, roll Will. Kinda obvious, i'd think.

helps if you pay attention to ya rolls
