Quirks

Hail DMs, I have a question that I need clarification on. I am currently playing a halfling PC whose quirk is he hates being called a halfling. He also dislikes attention being drawn to his vertically challenged attributes. Last night it was brought to my attention OOC that halflings dont like being called hin by any members of another race (Something my PC insists on). I did'nt know this and I dont think my PC does either. I am trying to play the PC whos exposure to other races and cultures of sanctuary has created the persona of my main PC which is reflected in his speech patterns and mannerisms. I guess my question is- Is it Okay to stray from canon if it can be explained IC? Or is this frowned on? I have not been on the server that long and I wish to avoid blunders if possible. I am asking this question for those who are thinking about creating a female gnome who wishes to kiss their racial enemies (Goblinoids?) full on the lips. You never know! Thanks for your time and all that you do

You character has his own personality that cannot be pre-written in some sourcebook. If your char doesn't feel insulted after being called a hin, then he doesn't. The majority of halflings feel insulted after being called a hin, that doesn't mean all of them do.

Concerning straying from canon "rules", just use your common sense. If it's some minor personality issue, don't worry about it. If it's the one in a zillion good drow, get dm approval.

Common sense FTW.
