Respectfully submitted question

Hail and well met. I'm going to start this off by pointing to the subject title, so that you all know this a completely non arrogent, non upset, question that I'm submitting, that I would hope to come to a solution on.

3 nights ago, an adventuring companion of mine, my in-game brother, was detained by the watch, tried, and executed. In charecter, I found out the next morning about his death.

The reasons for his execution by stoning, I wont bring up in this thread, as they pertain to In-game story, and not to the question at hand.

A few people in game that we adventured with attempted to try and recover his body, through what means, I have no idea. But one of them was killed I have come to learn, and is now, permadead for her efforts to recover my "brother."

Through an exceptional bit of rollplaying (if I dont say so myself), I risked arrest (redclaw half orcs arent much liked in uppers), and went to the watch house, to personally speak with the guards. I will not include the details of what transpired, because I dont want some people who might read this, to meta-game some of the near hours worth of in game conversation that my orc and the guards had at that table, primarily myself and two watchmen. Luther Ambercrown, and Gloinar Runehammer.

In charecter we were at that table discussing various things I wont mention, back and forth for almost an hour, probably 45 minutes. In the end, Because of my sad ol story of how I had promised our mother on her death bed that if anything ever happened to my brother, that I'd bury him next to her, with the rest of the clan,.. (and in exchange for other stuff), they agreed to allow me to go talk to the NPC in the mosseleum to recover his remains.

I contacted a DM later that night, and was able to rollplay out recovering my "brothers" body. The DM made me earn it, so to speak, as I was in a disguise, (i couldnt roam uppers in my redclaw armor). But long story short, the DM created a corpse with my "brothers" name, stuck it in a coffin, and allowed me to take it back to lowers.

I have since, turned my brothers body over to our clans shaman. At my "brothers" death, he had fought off 5 npc's, a pc cleric, and was bare fisted. Gruumsh would be pleased.

Our shaman was going to pay to have him raised at a temple. Pretty much, we just want to be able to use this as a reason for the real toon to be able to log in again. Through great rollplaying and much possable danger, we went into the den of the lion so to speak, and recovered his body, so that we could bring him back.

Our shaman contacted a DM tonight, and was told that it would be impossable, because the body was to badly mauled......

*lowers his head*

This is a completely non hostile series of questions, please dont forget that when I ask these.

1. I rollplayed my butt off to get the body back, and got it back, when 6 other charecters had tried, been chased off, or even killed. And I safely returned the body to our shaman so that we could raise the charecter.

2. In charecter, his mighty feat of fighting off 5 opponents unarmed could be reason for him to be raised by gruumsh in a divine ceremony by our shaman, considering that he was wrongly accused by non orcs, and showed his strength. *shrugs*

3. We can afford to have him rezzed by an NPC cleric,.. however, we dont have his ACTUAL body,.. all we have is the inventory item corpse, that says "the mangled remains of zug". Its not his actual in game corpse, its an item the DM created for me to pick up at the mosseleum, to return to the clan.

4. With ressurect, you dont need a completely healed, and mint condition body. I'm pretty sure. I know in my PnP group, with raise dead the dm always wanted us in mint condition, or we suffered whatever affliction the corpse had. (no leg, no arm, whatever), but with ressurection, you just needed a part of the body. And we have his body, the DM gave it to me after that super tense rollplay hour and a half total, where I could have been arrested and killed for even being there.

Is there no way, whatsoever, despite all of the RP'ing and interaction with all the different watch people, gathering intelligence of what and where everything happened, and then getting authorization to retrieve his body and sneaking back through upper, to lower sanctuary,.. that we can even pay to raise him if nothing else? Even if its just to allow him to log back on and "hey,.. woopie,. gruumsh said I'm back", even if he takes the exp hit for regular respawning.

Is he completely lost after all that?

Respectfully submitted, Oggroth

Thank you for the question. In the future, such inquiries regarding specific situations are best sent via e-mail - this particular forum is for general policy questions only. As a general policy, characters that have been stoned to death do not return. Although we could conceivably make an exception, it has not yet happened in a year of up-time. I think the DM team has always been very open about the fact that executions generally represent perma-death.

I'd be glad to go over the specifics with you through IRC, an IG conversation, e-mail, or a forum PM.
