First I'd like to say i understand this is a low level server and this situation will happened often amoung the characters that are lvl 4-5 and below.
But I am so sick of seeing higher levels of just one class (eg Rogue, monk, ranger, barbarian, eg). There is often no excuse icly for these characters to have the classes - often they seem so random. I espcially don't like seeing it with characters who use it with three different classes.
It is often an excuse to get the special abilities of other classes. Like:
Level 1 Rogue = Sneak Attack
Level 1 Monk = AC Bonus
And so on and so fourth.
I think it sometimes ruins a character when there is no reason why this class should be part of them. And if there is a reason - sometimes I feel as if it is like an excuse to have a stonger/better character (guess it's a little like powergaming).
Personally, I'd like to see a bit of a rule against this.
Rant done.
I'd like to hear other thoughts!

Hey let me take you out back and show you something.
*guides phoenix out back*
Do you see this?
Do you *see* this?
It is a dead horse.
Next to it you can find the ftr/barb dead horse, the rgr/rogue dead horse, and a myriad of other dead horses pertaining to powergamers.
Hm. With all these dead horses, I can think of only two things:

Well, personally, I sincerely dislike this sort of player-policing. Having other players, who know nothing about my PC, wail because I did something so petty and inconsequential as take a certain class is ridiculous and, quite frankly, the opposite of fun.
I think the player-base would be better served by concentrating on their own inner-awesome, instead of going on these absurd witch-hunts.

Calculor is right.
Though I also think taking one class level for whatever reason to gain a mechanical advantage is lame.

What Calculor said is true.
Yes, there are people and characters who will take one level of a class for the purely mechanical advantage, without a real IG reason. That's the nature of NWN, though. Rather than become frustrated with it, though, focus on your own characters to make them as awesome as possible. As it stands, players cannot know whether or not there are real reasons for the choice, either.
And be comfortable in the fact that blatant cases of this kind of powergaming will not be rewarded by DMs.

The higher the level of character, the more likely they'll crossclass. There's absolutely nothing wrong with, say, a cleric of Cyric getting to level 7 or 8 and then going for a rogue level. It's not just for the sneak attack, necessarily, and to assume that is the reason is unfair on the player. Even if it is just for the sneak attack, what makes you think you've the right to chastise them?
I'll say it again. I don't like forum threads that are created to knock the way other players play, even if it is that the player has picked a level of barbarian for the rage or a level of fighter for the fullplate, or that they've got a ridiculous bio, or that they've neglected to mention their surname and so forth.
It is not your business to comment on these matters.

I think the priority you should consider most here is your own personal enjoyment. Are you enjoying playing your character? If so, then don't even look at the list of players and their classes, just focus on having a good time doing your thing. I personally could barely stand that last 4-5 page "discussion" on ranger rogues.

Hey,
I read your post and though you would like to know....
Mainly, cross classing makes you weaker not stronger :)
+ bonus ac of monk is nice, yes, but its a whole less lvl for the main class (if its a rogue, as mainly monks goes with rogues, so you lose sneak attack ,which are precious - I know I play my third rogue)
Ranger/Rogue for what? dual wield?
And even If there is a strong cross, there is always a stronger pure class (Heard of it from experianced Powerbuilders, I KNOW it)
Just ignore those pawns who take stuff just for the feats. As long as you enjoy to play, the best. If they ruin your experience, dont worry as they will fall this lvl, or the lvl after, when they lose all hope for their class (or just be REALLY good RPiers to care enough for it, and not lose hope- then i dont thing you have a reason at all to get annoyed by them)

p.s.
ignore spell errors and such i wasnt sleeping all night
good day :)

The only people who really care about what OTHER people are building are the hyper competitive types that think somebody else is getting an unfair advantage in some race they seem to think we're all on, race to where?
You build what you want for YOUR character, it's your character, you play them as you see fit, you roleplay them as you envision them behaving, you evolve all of the above when you feel it's necessary.
Just remember theres other people around so have a bit of respect for their choices too, even if they ARE different from yours.
We're all here for fun arent we? hopefully not at others expense.

People who have no IC justificaton for their choices will be dealt with by the DMs, accordingly. I don't worry too much about it.

We've got the message.
This is not aimed at any individual in particular, but to conclude:
The general idea is that no one should be telling other players how to play, or putting others under scrutiny. It's not your place to do so and it will just upset people to drive noobs away that might flourish into fantastic players if given the proper guidance (and not just knocked for their mistakes by people who think they've some idea of what is good and proper but usually don't). Players should feel free to take whatever builds/stats/classes/bios/names/etc they please without being made fun of. If there's something seriously wrong with what they've done, the DMs will rectify the problem, rest assured.
Just concentrate on having fun yourself, and making this server fun for others.
Live and let live!
