Letter to Sheriff Eugene Walters, Watch House

-A letter arrives, written in rather plain and simple text. As the letter progresses, the text becomes more sloppy, and there are large ale stains all over the bottom of the letter - which could easily be mistaken for stains of water or some other beverage-

Sheriff,

I spoke to you earlier today about me wanting to join under your ranks, and you told me to have a letter written to you letting you know of my interests. I'm a rather simple fellow, yet my concerns for law and order are as strong as ever since I recently stumbled upon Santuary. I've only been in this town for four days now, living off rent in the Rock Bottom Inn, and serving as a 'sword-for-hire' of sorts to help me better myself with the area.

Before I was brought here from the surface, I served as a Watchmen/Patrolmen in the city of Waterdeep, and was taken from my duties almost as quick as I came upon them when I was kidnapped by those nasty dark skinned Dwarves. I don't feel there is a chance for me leaving this place anytime soon, and I wish to continue in the same field of work that lead me to a happy and successful life on the surface.

Let me know if my assistance is needed.

Signed, -Jack Swaggle Rock Bottom, Room 4

Sheriff Eugene Walters finishes a rothe beef sandwich as he reads over the letter. Having read through it, he glances at the ale stains on the bottom of the parchment. Slowly, he leans back and looks across his office, ensuring that no errant Watchmen have snuck in while he wasn't watching. After having verified that the door is shut and nobody is nearby, he stares at the letter and, after a few minutes of contemplation, he leans down, sniffs, and tentatively licks the stain.

Shortly thereafter,

"Lieutenant Alders! Open up a file on this fellow. And get me something to drink. That sandwich made me thirsty."
