Flamerule 30, 151 Leon Belmonte Rock Bottom Inn Regard Execution by stoning

As a citizen, I believe you lack clarity in this city's history. It is a democracy. Execution is the taking of a life, which is morally not a good act. It never has been a good act. There is no humane way to take life.

Yet when a city must destroy a life for the safety of all those living in it, our democratic society states that all citizens must share equally in the burden of execution. This is what it means to be a democracy.

Beyond this, execution by stoning assures that only those the citizens feel guilty die. It is no longer the fiat of a judge and executioner. If the citizens feel the condemned deserves life, they will not cast a stone. Do not attempt to change this system, it has saved lives in the past and will save them in the future.

Your proposal only seems humane if you are blind to the existance of the eternal soul. While a body may suffer temporally through stoning, his soul lives on and faces the purer judgement of Kelemvor. Your "humane" form of execution removes the oversight of this community from the taking of lives, leaving it in the hands of elected officials only who can make mistakes or abuse their power. If they make a mistake, a greater stain is put on their immortal soul and that is the greater crime.

Trust the wisdom of this community. Trust not the wisdom of a single fallible man.

Respectfully,

Barrister Fawkes
