Letter to Agent Ferrington

Agent Ferrington,

You may not remember me, for it seems that much time has passed since our duel and your acceptance into your Order. I seem to recall that you were slightly nervous, that being the second time you were to take your tests. I hope all has gone well for you in the interim.

My name is Maeturorant Gorthaurca, and I write to you now to inform you that I am running for council, and would like to know where the Spellguards interests may be in this regard. I understand that the Spellguard recieve a good deal of support currently from our council, and would be interested to know if there is anything that your organization is looking for that may not be present in our current administration. I believe that the council should be well advised by all our defense organizations. This is what I have written thus far, and how I tend to think of your organization.

---The Spellguard There has been a great deal of, as I understand it, misplaced animosity from our citizens directed towards the Spellguard. Do they protect us and conceal us from the magic of our enemies? I believe they do, to the best of their ability. I believe that though many groups know of our location within the Underdark, that we should still harken to their advice, for I believe that they have the safety of our settlement foremost in thought and deed. I have heard outcrys that the Spellguard hoard information and conduct their business in secrecy from the general population. Well citizens, I believe they do, and they should do no less. Matters of security should be known only to a few, such as the other defense organizations and the council. It has been proven time and again that our enemies walk within the very walls of Sanctuary, and for the Spellguard to be transparent in their doings would prove to be our downfall. Let us trust the men and women we place in our defense agencies.--

When you find the time, do write back, so that I may have a more informed opinion on the needs and desires of your organization. Thank you for your time.

Highest Regards, Maeturorant Gorthaurca

Maeturorant Gorthaurca,

Good day to you my friend. Fear not, I recall your person and I have not forgotten our duel. If I'm right, I still owe you one. In the meanwhile, all has been well in my Order. The Spellguard has treated me well, and I feel I am doing a service to my city.

I am glad to hear of your prospects. You would do our city a service in the Council. I thank you in advance for your inquiry, as we always seek to improve the communication and cooperation between defense organizations.

Currently, the only area we seek improvement from the Council is that a course of action must be decided in regards to Lower Sanctuary. While the mages of our Order evaluate and react to the threat as necessary, without official orders we are essentially sitting idle. The threat is exponentially growing; therefore, the longer we wait to react, the more difficult the task becomes. We have stressed this to our Councilmembers, but unfortunately the Council remains in a heated debate and cannot come to a conclusion.

Regarding your opinion on our Order, I am in continual agreement with you. The Ubel Rebellion has left us a nice public image that has been used to assault Agents in their regular duties on the field, and this continual slander is starting to hinder our work to an unacceptable level. Contrary to these rumors, we work strictly in defense of our city in both internal and external affairs. Indeed, while we may appear secretive, our Order retains certain information in defense of our city for the very reason you have mentioned, but by no means are we corrupt.

I wish you luck in your campaigning. Should you need a favor, I am often found at the Spellguard Tower. Please come by sometime, I'd like to have at another duel with you.

-Field Officer Ferrington Order of the Spellguard

Field Officer Ferrington,

First, in all humbleness, let me say that it is a uncommon pleasure to correspond with a fellow as intelligent and wellspoken as myself. This lack of learned fellowship is an unfortunate, and I find in particular, rather trying aspect of Our Township. I shall look for you on the morrow, and perhaps we shall have our second duel followed by a lively chat upon the state of the community in which we find ourselves.

Cordially Yours, Maeturorant Gorthaurca
