Some questions about EfU - any replies are appreciated!

Hey everyone,

(Mods, please read through. I don't think anything here is objectionable, but if you'd rather I not ask these questions I shan't)

I have not yet had a chance to play here but I've been reading through the forums, and I really like a lot of your systems. I am a DM for the Shadow Mountain server (not advertising, just introducing!) and in the process of planning for NWN2 we've got a lot of ideas but we're not sure how well they'd work. If anyone is willing I would like to ask how well certain of your systems and concepts have worked, as a way to gauge whether or not they might work for us as well.

Mostly, I am interested in your DM faction system. (i.e. prescripted NPC factions that can be joined by players, who can do faction-specific quests and rise in the ranks). I had something very similar in mind myself and was thrilled to see you'd already proved it was possible!

I would like to ask the players how you like this system compared to a more generic guild system in which the players form the guilds themselves. Does it work well for your RP to have organizations ready with stories and purposes set in place? Does it stifle you to conform to the DM created guilds? Does it make for good PvP between rival factions? (Not sure this one is applicable but I'll ask anyway). Are there enough guilds to choose from? Is more better?

I would certainly like to play here some, but as much as I do enjoy RP I also enjoy powergaming and action-oriented servers so I do not think I would enjoy it in general. Still, I look forward to talking with you guys about what makes a good PW.

obsidian tower Hey everyone...

Both systems are actually in place here. There are many DM as well as player created factions/ guilds here. Both are actually quite flexible when it comes to player ambitions. For example, the now gone Tigereye mercenaries (DM run, PC/ NPC crewed): They had players that were good, bad, abusive and downright criminal. The DMs would have also been likely to accept someone with a will to clean it up as well. Planted spies...whatever! The DMs are here for us and are very talented in taking crazy player ideas to the next level and stiffling of ideas is not something that happens unless there is a setting conflict or balance issue. As for a number, that was given not too long ago

As for PvP, it happens as one would think in a rough setting like this; Challenges, duels, assassinations, robbery, political motivation and the list goes on.

You might be suprised at how good it is -if- you gave it a try. Now, you can hop in and powergame your way along and satify that urge, however you will be missing the beauty that is EFU...the deeper you dig into what is going on, the more questions you'll find you have about what is -really- going on. As a player of a PC drow that doesn't dual wield and call himself Frizzt I can say this, the plots and the abmbitions are dark and deep. But by all means, don't trust me...come have a look for yourself XD

Our faction system works extremely well, I think.

We define powergaming in terms of behaving OOC, so that isn't welcome. But in the sense of action/killing monsters I'd say EfU does an extremely good job of providing action-filled, highly dangerous, exciting quests.

Yeah, for an RP server, there is definitely no lack of excitement. Wander around outside the city and it will get REALLY exciting really fast. Not to mention the array of challenging quests.
