[Sent individually to each member of the (upper) council: Bhast, Starag, Archibald, Graiden, Gaeseric, Tyrell, and Highill]
Esteemed Councilors of the settlement:We of the Society of the Ordered Mind have been fighting a foe for much time which lairs very near to your Sanctuary. We speak of the vile proprietor of the Sleeping Pryimo Inn. You, of course, know of this place and the cunning monstrosity within, but we fear that you do not fully appreciate the gravity of its presence and its effects on your population. We, the Society, cannot pretend to know more about Intryzz or the machinations of its alien thoughts more than you, but we do concern ourselves with preventing these evils locked within its hideous cranium from manifesting and wrecking havoc upon us, you, and your citizenry.
We have experienced and witnessed, in our vigilance against our sworn enemy, some of these manifestations and how they interact with your settlement which we are graciously guests of.
Whenver the illithid named Intryzz holds games at its pit within the Sleeping Pyrimo, droves of your citizens, ignorant of the evil within the place to where they go, flock to its smiling clutches. It uses these games for one obvious purpose, and likely a multitude of hidden reasons. The clear purpose is this: It attempts to garner trust of its unwitting visitors to manipulate them for its ultimate and unclear purposes. This often includes the giving of gifts, which encompasses organic or metalic implants that seem to benefit the host, but, in truth, allows Intryzz gradual access to the host's mind. These implants effectively make the hosts invisible tools in Intryzz's cabinet who can manuvre about Sanctuary without suspicioun.
As many of you know, through thralls, Intryzz built an outpost, or foothold if you will, inside of Sanctuary. This base of infernal opperations was none other than the Steady Hand Tavern, the once-to-be hospital of the late Councilor Ward. The proprietor of the tavern, a svirfneblin, was a direct thrall of the illithid's, whose brain was mostly replaced by implants and devices. The backrooms of this edifice were stocked with dire aberrations and psychic monstrosities. Proof of this can be found in the Spellguard tower, providing that the esteemed mages preserved or documented the evidence. The order of the Spellguard confenscated from the Society the severed head of the thrall and the corpse of a psionic hound, both dragged from the Steady Hand after the battle between two Ordinants of the Society of the Ordered Mind and the minions of Intryzz. Other contents of the backroom included a sundry of illithid-craft devices and supplies, torture equipments, and, most shocking, a two-way portal in the upper story which led directly to and from the Sleeping Pyrimo Inn. Intryzz had the capability of launching a large-scale assault from that portal right into the heart of the Canal Ward. Indeed, in response to the Society's actions, the monster sent a score of goblinoid thralls equiped with alchemical bombs. Such an attack would have plunged the entirety of lower into a firestorm had the building not been destroyed with the portal within. It must be frightening to the greatest degree that such a diabolical enemy had more than a foot in Lower Sanctuary, able to cause, at will or whim, destruction and chaos unparalleled by the recent revolt.
Furthermore, the Steady Hand is still a danger. There is activety in a cellar of the tavern, previously undiscovered, which is largley unidentified. There are citizens of Lower who reside there for an unknown reason. But, the locked door leading to this partially collapsed room is opened by the Pyrimo key, and the rock gnome who resides there can open a portal into the Sleeping Pyrimo and other places. This is evidence enough that Intryzz still holds sway on the site of its former outpost. And more, recently the Seekers were comissioned by this gnome to clear out a facility supposedly deep under the Dunwarren Ruins filled with bizarre aberrations. Our suspicions are that this cellar is yet another foothold of Intryzz's, its inhabitants thralls to some degree, and the Seekers were used to clear out that lost facility for the mind flayers own devious ends. Who can know what the settlement of Sanctuary is in for if Intryzz is once again allowed to opperate freely within its borders.
The reason for these explainations are to give backing to a heafty request the Society of the Ordered Mind wishes to bring to the people of Sanctuary. We hope that it will improve the security of the settlement, relieve the Spellguard of some stress in the field of monitoring aberration infiltration, and further the crusade of the Society of the Ordered Mind to erradicate the presence of the twisted and unnatural denizens of the Underdark. The request is an amendment to your code of laws, as such:
We request that the sale or posession of the keys to the Sleeping Pyrimo Inn be a major crime within Sanctuary ten days after this law is past and made public. Violators of this law be imprisoned, fined, interogated, and fairly mind probed by the law enforcers of Sanctuary and by optional assitance of the Society of the Ordered Mind, if requested.
We request that entering the Sleeping Pyrimo Inn fall under the clause of Sanctuary law: "Endangerment of Sanctuary" for assumed contact with Intryzz or devices within the lair which could manipulate the mind of the criminal for ultimately harmful reasons pertaining to the safety of Sanctuary. Violators of this law will be imprisoned until official trial by Councilor. If the Councilor is convinced by evidence or reliable witnesses that the suspect entered the Sleeping Pyrimo Inn, the Concilor will judge with accordance that the transgresion is considered greatly endangering Sanctuary. Only persons permitted by the Council of Sanctuary should be allowed to enter without prosecution, as long as the need arrises. These chosen persons should still be subject to a fair mind probing and implant detection test upon return to Sanctuary.
We request that any persons proven to conspire with Intryzz in any matter be a high crime. If the conspiracy is proven to endanger Sanctuary, than this crime too will considered treason. If the conspirator is found to be an unwilling thrall, steps should be made to free the suspect fully of illithid influence and then freed under careful survielance of the Spellguard, Seekers, Society, or Watch (whomever chosen by the presiding Councilor). Lacking the ability to fully free the consipirator of thralldom, they will be civily and humanely put out of their torture with a quick death.
We hope that the Council takes our requests with a measure of careful thought and deliberation. Intryzz is our foe in all respects, as is each of its minions and unfreed thralls. It is subtler than any drow, more cunning than any dangerous cult, more violent than any ambitious goblin tribe, and maniacly evil and selfish, weaving plots and games of our suffering for its own alien amusement. You cannot allow this threat to be tolerated any more. Rather, you cannot afford to allow it, for when your settlement is weakest from its own struggles or more blatant outside threats, it will emerge from the shadows of the backstage and tear your settlement coldy and methodically to pieces.
We hope that we have instilled the gravity of the situation upon your minds. We await your response.
Vigilantly, The Society of the Ordered Mind. As composed by Ordinant Laramie Lathae
[This following letter is sent with Gaeseric's copy of the above letter]
Esteemed Councilor Gaeseric of the Cave Worm Clan,The Society of the Ordered Mind has strong suspicion that Intryzz is active within your clan's area of protection within the Canal Ward. The uncovered cellar of the former Steady Hand Tavern is likely the nexus of this activety. The portals there may be used by conspirators and crimials to enter and exit the Pyrimo Inn at will. It may also be a new foothold within Sanctuary as the Steady Hand Tavern was, and seems to be effecting the citizens under your Clan's protection. There are more details the the other letter of request your are recieving with this. I emplore you to read it and then heed our request specifically of you and your noble Clanspeople.
Please set up a strict quarentine about the Steady Hand's ruins and close off the enterance to the cellar. We wish to effectively stop all traffic in and out of that room to hinder Intryzz's plans. Note that this is not only a request of assistance in our crusade, but a notification of danger within your settlement which we hope you will think upon carefully. Thank you for your consideration.
