This idea is pretty simply. Ive decided that lower definatly needs a tattoo shop.
The shop would sell, you guessed it, tattoos. They would be expensive non-dropable equipment. They would have a range of light and balanced powers, for example one might add plus one intimidate, neg one persuade.
Im not sure exactly how the system would work, maybe they are just items in the inventory that you activate and last 24 hours (so you can use them every time you wake up), or maybe they sit in a specific inventory spot, and when you arn't covering them with gloves/armour etc you must equip these items there, since the tattoo is on view?
Hell, while your at it, the shop could do piercings as well. A ring could just as easily be through the nose as on the finger. These might or might not be droppable.
Give up any ideas you might have for cool tattoos here, as well as telling me what a great idea it is (or isnt).

id like to see a non droppable skin like tattoo for those shaman like characters who can make magical tats..
possibly like a suit of armor.. therefore if you put on a shirt or armor the effects are negated ..as you're obviously not wearing the armor ..mechanics wise.... they should be really expensive or possibly DM aproved as we wouldnt want them to replace armor and armor check penalties.. possibly even a special feat..i.e. magic tattoos.
just some ideas..

I don't know... I think those should only be aquired through DM interactions and not in shops.

I sort of agree with Staring. It might be a good idea for very special DM loot or something, but I'm not sure making it publicly available is such a neat idea.

can we have a DM's say on weather they want to go through the trouble of alllllllll the spec. loot?

Personally I'd see tattoos on par with things like implants, as to how they're executed. Not a bad idea for an alternate "ability" granted by a dm and a small no drop item.

I know the Red Wizards are big on magic tattoos. If I was them, I would definitely be pushing for this to be implemented. But I also agree with Staring that this is probably best done through the DMs. If not I foresee a lot of people getting tattoos that normally wouldn't. Sanctuary might end up looking like a Slayer concert...

I disagree. The Red Wizards would
not want others to have the same abilities as they have.
While it is a exciting suggestion, I don't think it should be implemented, seeing as it sounds explotable. A magic tattoo should be something that is very rare, thus not publicall available.

Are there even commands to modify the tattoo styles/colours on a player yet as script commands?
Magic tattoo's basically take the same effect as PERMANENCE - Spell effect.. which doing that with normal magic is a severe penalty. So they could well be extremely unbalancing.
Even if they were of the form of : cast spell X 1 per day, thats the equivalent of an extra slot (though you dont get to choose what the spell is) - though you may well get to choose the tattoo.
Flavourwise i'm in favor of it, but mechanics wise I'd be weary of adding innate abilities/powers to character.

This would strike me as a rather difficult, while I am a module maker myself, I do not know how to download new appearences, heads, etc. or make a conversation or triggers, scripts, etc. but I do know that even for a 'World Builder' this would prove to be extremely difficult new tattoo appearences but I don't think you can properties that tie along with appearence unless you are short or tall, which does provide a few advantages.

Still, a non-magical tattoo shop would be cool. You could add or change your tattoes, just like at character creation.
An even bigger step would be a kind of barber shop where you could change your hair (effectively the head) and hair color.

I was saying the Red Wizards would want these for themselves. I also agreed in my post that it should be done with a DM. If they aren't implemented, how would the Red Wizards get them? I also believe I came out against them becoming commonplace....
I also understand the tattoos wouldn't be visible on screen, but they would still appear in descriptions and emotes.

From what I understand, once a Magical Tattoo has been used, it disappears. This opens up the chance for a store similar in content to the Halfling's candystore. Perhaps the Thayans could have a similar NPC merchant if they ever get an Enclave or a store.
Lords of Darkness has all the information for the creation of Magical tattoos, and the restrictions as well.

I misunderstood you then. But, to make an example: I play a Red Wizard on another server, where magical tattoos are not implemented. We still roleplay them as beeing, though. Especially the tattoo that marks all Thayan Knights to the property of his magus. It makes him automatically fail all will-saves from his magus, meaning that he can't lie to him, and he basically can't object to his magus' orders, however absurd they may be. ;)
In my opinion, the tattoos should be very rare, and doesn't need to actually be implemented - simply roleplay it.

In that case, wouldn't it be much easier to simply buy a scroll, and pretend it is a tattoo?

I can see that. Just use the scroll and emote the tattoo disappearing. The only problems with that are I believe the casting time for a tattoo is shorter than a scroll, and the only effects granted would be ones given by specific spells. But this is still a nice alternative idea.

Most of the tattoos need not be magical. If you get a facial tattoo, similar, say to a maori tat, you should get a loss of persuade and a bonus to intimidate. Simply because is bad as all hell, not cos its magically so. Likewise a beautiful tattoo might add to persude and lower bluff etc etc. Im not suggesting powerful things that would unbalance the server.
