I'd like to throw out a big "Hell Yeah!" to Helkesst for the DM mini-quest he ran last night, and to make a suggestion. FWIW....
I think DM quests with only minor plot impact are a nice changeup and happy medium between doing Plot intensive OOC/IC work, and the surface RP/scripted quests that get to be a bit stale and repetitive.
The DMs can't be everywhere, but by far the most FUN times for me are when an NPC or DM faction PC gathers some various characters together - and go do something unexpected and new.
Maybe I just suck at planning Major Plot stuff, but when those incidents go down I always feel a bit left out when my character logs on and I say, "What's happening?"
I may represent an extremely busy segment of the Player Population that just want to have fun and it's nice to have a 1-2 hour quest that reminds me of my old PnP days of playing AD&D. I'm not bitching about all the cool stuff that some players do that have major impact on the server. I'm awed at how they plan and implement such creativity.
Not all of us are so creative. Not all of us are experienced in the game well enough {yet} or have the time/energy to do those kinds of things, but I sure do appreciate those that do. Don't change anything there....
But as a rep of the people that just want to log on for 2-3 hours and escape into a very cool medium that engages our yearning for fantastical, fictional fare, I hope to see more of those "mini-quests" that seemed quite common a few months ago but perhaps have been sacrificed due to the many layers of complex plot activities that require intensive DM interaction.
This would just make what is already an enjoyable experience even better for players like me.
Kudos again to Helkesst and all future mini-quests from the DM team!

i find my self agreing with you. i sometimes((almost always really)) get left out of a major plot incident that pretty much changes the out look on the server. i find myself enjoying the server much more when a dm runs a mini plot or such thing with me around. I have no clue What is the major plot right now so i feel left out of the loop.
Thanks to the dm's who run the smaller things while big things are going on ^^

Also means people get to feel that special privilidged feeling of being on a DM quest, without the DM having to put quite so much time and effort into planning a all-encompasing uber-plot. Probably be a bit of a break for you lot too. Would definitely like this - I've only been on one DM plot (and one DM playing cat and mouse - well, troll and fighter. Thanks!) and they really are pretty cool.

Along these same lines, something that I found that used to happen much more often when the server was younger was dm possesion of npc's for no particular plot or quest reason at all. Things like a commoner saying something rude when a bunch of people were standing around or the private in the rock bottom emoting something like falling asleep. Basically, these instances served no purpose, but I found that they made the world feel more alive.
By no means should this be seen as a complaint, but I think that as dms many of you have gotten so busy with plot stuff, not to mention all of the other things that keep you busy to do things like this. I understand that, but thought I would leave a little note here, in case you find you have the time to have the lower commoner sling a little mud at my watchman and run away.
Much love guys!

well firstly i gotta say i've only been playing here a week and from the very start i was extremely lucky enough to get a tiny mini quest by a DM ((sorry i cant remember the name)) before i even managed to get to sanctuary... i have to say i was immediately hooked..
the quest involved my gnome gettin something from the kobold merchant just outside the main gate above upper sanctuary..but it allowed me to use skills and abilities in a different way than the usual form in a scripted environment..
all in all it took about 30 mins of real time and was perfect for a player who was just checking out the server whilst in a lull on from another server..
this kind of DM interaction definitely needs to be encouraged more i say!
to the DM who did it..Kudos! was a great intro for me.. and has led to me sticking around longer and giving the server a more serious appraisal

I know as a player the little things really did count, so I've been taking the time to do some of that. Glad you liked it, Turbospew.

I participated in one that Helkesst ran not long ago and I have to say it was absolutely lovely. I agree that these are awesome and seeing more of these would be greatly appreciated by everyone.
