Fun idea for arcane spell casters TELEPORTATION lesser

I think mages at lvl 5 or above should be granted the special ability to teleport.

FAQ

Q then why arent they just teleporting to the surface?

A because lesser teleport travels anywhere on your existing plane from 300 miles.

Some restrictions to make it not the I win button

1 cant be used in combat

2 you must wait a total of six rounds before teleporting also in six rounds a sort of portal will appear.

Dangers of teleporting. it is likely that when you form a portal magic eaters will get you as teleporting requires a huge amont of magic.

more dangers 1 you might screw up in your portal so a powerful monster leaps out . You completly screw up and end up teleporting at a random destination thats not where you desired.

more extrememe dangers even after you go through the poral its still open (the portal is open for 3 irl minutes.) meaning anyone chasing you could follow you through. Arcane spell c asters can automaticly detect when a portal is near becuase it gives off so much magic.

Teleportation and the spellguard" the spellguard have a portal room inside the spellguard tower where they allow people to teleport to note they allow only registered spellcasters to teleport there. "they have the place so it detects if a legal spellcaster is there and they block out unregistered spellcasters attempting to go to sanctuary." this could plot to drows stealing registered spellcasters then using them to send in drow armys to attack sanctuary etc.

8 miles < 300 miles

Despite that, though, overall I think this would be too difficult to implement properly, for not enough of a benefit.

Thats just my opinion, though.

It'd likely take a lot of scripting work, but I actually like the idea of giving casters a kind of cool perk like this. There aren't enough wizards, and being able to teleport makes them infinitly more cool. Call me crazy though. :)

There is actually a reason, besides the technical/scripting standpoint, why teleportation is like it is in EfU's non-canon enviroment. Dunno if I have the liberty to comment on it, but I am pretty sure that knowledge can be persued in game, in-characterly.

It's a low-magic setting too.

And of course, it would be a very delicate thing to implement anyway.

Many quests / area designs rely on characters not being able to simply pop up wherever they wish. Of all the spells that could be added to EfU (theoretically speaking -- I'm not sure of the technical side), teleport would probably be among the easiest to abuse.

Besides, casters really don't need any more 'perks'.

Even if this could be done I'm of the opinion that it would add absolutely - get this - nothing to the setting for reasons already given.

Terry There aren't enough wizards...
Play with your eyes closed? :D

i have enough time trying to survive without and idiot wizard popping up out of nowhere only to have 4 drow following him. seriously mate are you insance? and wizards/ sorcerors are powerful enough as it is. in myu opinion it is the bards thta needs work

I wouldn't bad mouth the bards....they can be quite powerful. A while back I beleive it was a bard who won one of the biggest arena tornaments around (average character lvl was 6-7). Not to mention I have personally witnessesed a bard beat down a barberian of the same lvl in close combat.

Err. Is there any foundation, PNP or otherwise, for a "lesser teleport" spell?

It's not going to happen regardless. It would just cause more problems than benefits.

Dimension Door is sort of a Lesser Teleport.

800miles?

In the underdark the arcane attempts of it's inhabitants are greatly reduced. Though on the surface a teleportation spell may be used to trasport anyone all around Toril, in the underdark the spells abilitys are limited to a few miles as stated in book one of the war of the spider queen six-book series. *breaths*

Teleporting any distance in the Underdark is dangerous, and authors of FR novels should never be quoted as canon information anyways.

Faer'zess messes with magic.

Certain types yeah.. the best way to get around quickly in the underdark is very hazardous itself, it involves travelling to another plane, and back again :)

I agreewhole heartedly.

If any Teleportation be allowed it should be to a specific place and only be given rarily.

I'm not sure why this suggestion is still squirming though, I vote lock it.
