Favorite Inn?

Just out of curiousity.

Wow, talk about awkward questions Howland.

I voted for the Sleeping Pyrimo.

My first instinct was to vote for the crone because it tends to be the centre of action in lower sanctuary. And thus gets a lot of use. The Pyrimo of course only sees a fraction of the people that the crone sees, but the people that are at the Pyrimo allow for exceptionally more impressive RP. So when something happens at the Pyrimo, something REALLY happens.

For the full breakdown inns in the order I prefer them and why.

Thomas's : Even if its not a "real inn" since you can't rest there, its got the most personality of any of the inns. From musicians to a *lively* cast of characters. The only complaint I have is the musician there shouldn't just play a quick diddy but change the music to one of several "haunted" kinds of themes in NWN.

The Sleeping Pyrimo : You can rest here and its got personality and a theme to it that makes it neat. I'd almost envision it like the catina in Star Wars; a true hive of villainy. Again, if I was going to add anything, I'd stick in a wider range of "characters" frequenting the inn. Imagine all the scum you can find there, exiled from their homelands seeking somewhere safe--or coming to illicitly engage in trade, secrets, what have you.

The Blue Mushroom : Again, its got real personality. The blue mushrooms, but its lacking a little in that it doesn't have as much inn-pact (forgive the pun) because the gnomes really aren't maintaining anything more than an "inn" whereas I think if it branched out more as a trading post where you could occasionally find unique-random items for sale with traveling merchants and the docks had more use in ferrying you to different "trade" locals. The Blue Mushroom feels/seems like it should be a trade hub, but its not really reflecting that as well as I'd personally like to see.

The Pissing Crone Inn : This is up on the list because its got a lot of room for players to make impact, its got a history behind it that is futher beneath the surface than just an inn (I recall the things that Bug got involved in, which I don't know all the details but had some strong suspicions about). It reflects its character well, and is everything I think a slummy local inn could be--(minus a drunk in there you can have a mini-drinking contest with). It only comes in below the top three because I personally enjoy the flavor of an inn that is more than just a typical inn.

Fort Mur : Not really a great inn. Feels more like a boarding house. No personality. You just pay, you rest, you leave. No real interesting patrons, no real reason to visit or hang out there.

The Shallow End :I haven't visited it, so I admit I stuck it at the near bottowm.

The Rock Bottom Tavern : Worst inn period. Its below even the ones I haven't visited. Its dull, it has no personality, people just congregate there because its the inn closest to Townhall and several Fed Ex quests. I kind of like how the upper floor is starting to become filled with shops, the lower level could be shady and secretive but feels cramped and crowded. While its the "classier" inn, nothing really makes that aspect stand out. Its not even a "quintessential inn" because there's just no flavor to it. It honestly feels like Upper needed a nice inn, and a nice inn got stuck in. Even its patrons aren't really flavor for it--Bilby seems too refined for the place, the guy with the key is too thuggish, but all the same this inn--I equate with plain yogurt or oatmeal.

Last but not least, Sewer Town Inn! Its not even technically an inn so I stuck it last; but honestly even the way Gram grins laciviously at me when I go to rest on her lice infested blankets is better than the Rock Bottom to be honest. I'd almost prefer to see the 'rest' area there inside a sewer pipe, and when you sleep there is a random chance of rats coming to bite you, or you catching some disease, and the cost of the inn going way down (if not being free to anyone who isn't a 'scab') which could tie into an idea of letting players start out as members of a 'meta-faction'.

I'm going to say Thomas's because I find the concept to be the most interesting. I just wish something actually happened there once in a while, and people didn't just go there for grave-robbing and paladin blood. With the surrounding areas, however, I'm not convinced adding a spawn point would be worthwhile, since getting to and from the place is either a tad hazardous, or expensive.

Its not too bad. I do it with level 2 characters; sometimes you just have to run and hope the mummies save you when you get inside.

Blue Mushroom, nice ambience. A quiet place to escape all things Sanctuary for awhile. Though Oro's suggestions are a good idea, I kind of like that few people frequent the inn.

The Pyrimo was a close second, but mostly because of the people that visit the inn and not the inn itself, which makes me a bit queesy.

I agree with Oro again that the rock bottom is teh suckiest, suck that ever was a suck, but it is what it is and it kind of makes sense to be as it is.

Thomas's, but just barely.

I agree with Oro's points completely. Rock Bottom is like "inn tm"

I've suggested before that the rock should be moved to a less convienient location just to make the inn less of an auto stop by. Make people think about what inn they'd like to stay in rather than having a handy one right there as you enter.

Rock has always seemed very "Inn TM" to me. Infact its so cheerful I'd expect there are inns on the surface don't don't matc up to it.

My vote has to go for the pyrimo mostly for the interesting concept behind the inn. I don't use it for resting unless I really have to, but I really think its the most awesome inn out there as regards to flavour.

I vote the rock and the crone, simply because I buildt them. XD

Pyrimo and Thomas' are definitely the coolest. However...

What makes inns fun and interesting is having them packed with other pcs talking, getting drunk, fighting, scheming, acquainting, and listening to undead heads sing. In my experience, you don't run into a whole lot of other pcs in the Pyrimo and Thomas'. Wish things were different, or maybe I'm just there at the wrong times.

I like the Pyrimo and Blue Mushroom. I love how the glowing blue mushrooms were made into seats and tables. From the descriptions of the Pyrimo when I was in there, it sounds beautiful. Strange blue light, fish swimming above a clear ceiling, dream rooms (though I never got to try one :().

So if Thomas and Pyrimo had more people in them--they'd be much better than the Rock Bottom?

Oroborous So if Thomas and Pyrimo had more people in them--they'd be much better than the Rock Bottom?

Much much better.

Although, I feel like I should say that I consider those two inns especially as exotic places. Obviously you expect the Rock and Crone to be frequented more because of their location. But man, those other ones are just way cooler, and I'd like to go there and be able to interact with at least one or two other pcs.

Blue Mushroom.

A real Underdark Inn if I ever saw one. The blue glowing mushroom seats and tables are among my favorite interiors of the mod.

The Sleeping Pyrimo, it's just creepy. Then Blue Mushroom. The other inns rank in whatever order.

I totally agree with Oro on the Rock Bottom. Before it was revamped into the extremely classy in, it wasn't bright but rather had a dark, relaxing shade. It wasn't extremely classy, but certainly nicer then The Pissing Crone. To me, the Rock Bottom feels a bit out of place in a setting where such nice provisions I imagine would be maintained strictly for the extremely rich. My suggestion is to tone down the Rock Bottom, make it a little junkier, but still keep it a nicer place than the Crone.

Pyrimo! That place rocks my world.

EDIT: Crone comes in close second. So many good memories.

I say Thomas' Inn is my favorite to hang out at. But I must say that I have never been to either the Shallow End or the Pyrimo (I have no idea why as I've been playing on this server since March)

It's interesting that people are listing the Inns that are among the least populated.

I have to say though, I don't hate the Rock Bottom at all. It's a HUGE success as far as I'm concerned that the main gathering point in the server -is- an inn. It's theme is that of being a pleasant, low key gathering spot for adventurers.

I would like to jazz up the Crone a bit, it's actually my favorite inn but I agree that there are times where it's just empty. Some gambling or mini games would be welcome, of course the key is to design it such that it doesn't become the only thing to do at the inn or get in the way of people hanging out and roleplaying. Chat spam from NPCs is a huge annoyance.

Some inns of course will always remain places where people don't go to just hang out - and that's fully intentional.

Fort Mur/The Shallow End are neat places to visit, places where you might go connect with a NPC for a DM quest, places to rest when you and a group are exploring. But for what it's worth I don't imagine many characters simply hanging out at these far flung locales, but would rather see them either at the Rock or the Crone so there's a better chance of running into other PCs and interacting.

If Thomas' is on this list, I think it is only fair to add the Seeker Hall also. This is actually my favorite tavern/inn, despite the fact that it does not provide lodging (much like the listed Thomas').

I really wish that people visited the hall more often for reasons other than the goblin quest and the end of the starter quest. It's just such a nice place. It is in the middle of town, but it's sort of out of the way. None-the-less, it has all these "WELCOME AND RELAX" signs all about its enterance that would make you think more people actually went there to sit, and drink, and talk about the surface, and tell stories about Frederick Bresley and all that chummy kind of stuff. It's open and kind, like the Rock, but it's less cookie-cutter (as Naga was arguing).

If there were some interesting features like a Seeker bard/story teller who would, for five gold, slowly tell a story to the whole room on the talk channel about some amazing event of the buyer's choice. Or perhaps more commoner NPCs to give it a hint of a more busy atmosphere, and maybe a fed-ex quest which goes there to get new players to show up and look around.

The Seekers Hall is there, in the form of Tandra's (Tandra being the barkeep).

Noted!

I like the new fireplace in the Rock, makes me feel all warm and cozy sitting in front of it.

Blue Mushroom. I love the glowing mushrooms and its subtle eerieness.

Agreed. I also find it odd that people have voted mostly with the coolness-factor in mind. However, the Rock Bottom gets too many people: some of the PCs who go there regularly would better fit the scenery of the Crone, which is my favorite inn all things considered.

I suddenly feel bad for sewer town.... its not its fault its a stinking pit of dispair.... no wait yes it is. Someone sort out the crone. It always reminded me of the bar in Star Wars. All we need now is the minator back and its perfect.
