Law books are available at the rare book shop for just these types of requests. As for court proceedings, only capital crimes are brought before a councilor acting as a judge. This councilor is choosen at random from the pool of those available. The lawbook will tell you which crimes are capital and which are not.

Typical cases begin with the prosecution laying out their case, followed by the defense with questions from the councilor intertwined within. Although this is regarded as the traditional method, in reality the court proceedings are entirely in the hands on the councilor hearing them and on occasion things are done differently.
