Fun > Realism Part 2: The Plague

I have a poll for you:

Are you enjoying Escape from the Underdark with the Rotting Death going around?

I am asking this because I want to know if you're enjoying the plague or not. I will tally the results about twice a day.

My answer is no. I admit, it was okay the first few days, but now it's starting to get annoying.

What do you think?

Edit: Oops, forgot to add the poll.

I think it's an interesting PW event. It is getting a bit tiring to be constantly worried about being infected, but that's life, eh?

There is plently of impetus for some PCs to figure out a good way to get things under control.

I experienced the other way around, first I found irritating and it didn't lead to many interesting Rp situations. However I've started to enjoy it, a semi-split between the infected and not infected, any count of RPed split is good (well almost all). With the plague you're not doomed, you're just bound to the crystal, which adds a nice factor, it's like RPing an addict.

I thought it was awesome at first. But after the first day or so, i felt like it was lasting a little longer than was healthy without becoming tedious to RP. Just my opinion though.

Holy hells.

Could anyone whine more? I think this tops even myself, and I've complained about the most inane and stupidest things ranging from; "Howland didn't properly name the Deep Lizard that killed my character" to, "Why the hell dont I have any DM support?"

EfU is a Roleplaying server. To quote dictionary.com;

role-play Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[rohl-pley] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–verb (used with object) 1. to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), esp. in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction: Management trainees were given a chance to role-play labor negotiators. 2. to experiment with or experience (a situation or viewpoint) by playing a role: trainees role-playing management positions. –verb (used without object) 3. to engage in role-playing

Sometimes the things your character has to roleplay won't be fun to everyone, especially those who's image of "Roleplay" is Powergaming. I've found limitless potential to cause conflict with this plague and that's really what other players should be doing too. This sort of event is what will seperate the shitty and awesome players.

I think it's been established by the DMs themselves that the plot could've been handled a little better mechanics wise, but they've explained the situation and there's little else to say. Deal with it, maybe? If it's that much of a problem for people who would rather do something that doesn't require stats/HP/Experience points then I would be glad to refer some to World of Iniquity or Bastion of War. I don't think the DMs care to come off as this tactless, but I'm sure I'm speaking what's on a lot of their and the player's involved minds.

I think some people need to realise that this a -Roleplaying- server that a lot of dedicated and awesome players pump their time into so that other(Lesser, as an elitist as me might say) players could enjoy themselves and say, "Wow, that's so great." It comes off as pretty damn rude and disrespectful to continue beating the horse into dog food with whiny posts such as this. What's the point?

In the end, you forgot option 3; Who gives a crap?

the whole plague thing is great - sit back and relax - we're doing something different for once!

I can almost guarantee that you will not find an in game rp event/ plot that has had 1) so much DM support and lead up, 2) this much scripting and behind the scenes time and 3) this much player driven support, and 4) is so sweeping in it’s effect on any other server.

Is it tedious because you don’t have full health to quest? If so, I would ask would your character be interested in questing for loot/xp at a time like this, or would he be actively trying to deal with the plague in some way (be that selling false cures, doing whatever with the existing cures, fouling up plans to find the cure, going out to smite those fouling up the plans to find the cure, organizing a group to quarantine those with the plague, establish order in an already chaotic lower due to the plague after what has already happened, establish a group to get the existing cures out as quickly as possible, etc.—Note that this is what I could think as I quickly wrote this, and all pertaining to the plague and what people could do with it.)

Now, I can see this as a frustrating event, especially for any who are new to the rp thing, or have come over from other places like WoW, E2, DDoL, etc. But, please, give the rp some effort and give it a chance. Not only will it grow on you, it will do so quickly, add depth to your characters, and provide more interest to a game than you have likely ever had before.

Just my two cents from an old dixie cup.

Well, we are entitled to our own opinions. Let us all agree to disagree.

And just in case you're wondering, I AM doing something to stop the plague. My character, Argent Gish, is distributing plague cures in the town hall. For FREE.

I believe i should play the role of devils advocite here as I can see both points of the argument and where there coming from because yes the plague has opend up rp opertunites but in some ways it has limited other ones (and i should point out that just because someone argues the quest point of view dosent mean they are a powergamer because at end of day the most lickely way to get a cure is to buy one but you need money to buy a cure and with the bank closed the only way to make money is to do a quest but you cant do the quest because you have the plague so it can be a bit of a vicious circle in that regards)

This has been discussed to death.

I'll leave the thread open in the interests of poll statistics, but everyone just keeps saying stuff that's already been said!

This is getting ridiculous Gish. Did you just join this server so you could spam the forums with complaints? This server is NOT ABOUT QUESTING AND XP...its about ROLE PLAYING!

P.S.--I don't usually rip people on this forum for their opinions, but come on, man!

Argent_Gish reminds me a lot of Smoogles.

By far the most amusing thing about all this, Argent, is that you're self-admittedly a "half-roleplayer, half-powergamer". Yet you're unbelievably vocal on the forums about things you don't happen to like in EfU -- a server that is a "full" roleplaying server, not just "half". Why do you insist?

There certainly are valid reasons to dislike the plague -- which have already been mentioned, like was pointed out -- but you're doing it for all the wrong reasons, and a thread like this only encourages such whiny behaviour.

I second this.

Enough is enough.

I agree with Anthee, but I anticipate bandwagon banging against Argent_Gish off of the back of the last four posts.

Locking, just to be safe.
