Dice Roll Fights?

It's obvious this server has a lot of PvP action, which is cool.

But do many people use the dice rolls to do a fight? I used to use quite often in an old server and found it quite good in certain cases. It allows more complicated fights rather than just what the combat system NWN has for us.

Is it ever used in EfU and are people willing to do it? Or do you just like the good all click and beat them up?

Dice rolls are fine in some cases. But if you're trying to beat somebody to the floor and steal all their shit, then you need to actually beat them to the floor and steal their shit.

I've done a 'dice roll fight' before. It was supposed to be a wrestling competition. Had to beat eachothers' STR mods to pin the other and DEX to break free, etc etc. Dice rolls are just for fights that can't be handled within the NWN engine.

oh- it'll deffiently take some sensible and patient roll playing to do a full on 'beat down to the floor fight'. People have to be willing to just let their charater floor for the RP.

I'm more meaning for fights that started: *kicks in shin*, *grabs collar in anger*, *headbutts in stomach* where it not always realistic to jump into a NWN engine fight.

Again, I guess it is quite tempting to jump into a proper fight - where damage reduction is actually dealt.

They're cool, but rare. Better are the comfortable back-and-forth emote fights, I think, with a clear winner decided at the end of a good show. I come from RPGs where there were no dice, and no rulesets, and the combat was still top notch.

Same here, first ever online RPG I ever went on had no dice or combat framework. SOme of the best RP ever on that

It can be okay with things like trying to shove people out of an inn or out of your favorite chair, but no one is obligated to respond with opposed checks of any kind. Of course, if you get subdualed you should cooperate with being dragged around and such.

Fighting IS dice rolling, last I checked. I'd prefer, If you're going to emote socking someone in the face, to try to attack them, rather than making a STR roll and make them do a DEX to dodge.

People also react differently to someone emoting "Punches in face" to someone actually punching someone. Often the former is just ignored, whereas people seem to lynch those that do the latter.

As once said, before you do any of these things, just make sure the other side will cooperate :) (via tell) its the palyers' decision, to cooperate, or not... and respect thier decision...

(Im sure, a proper dm reaction to what I said make things more clear)

Oh yeah. Whenever I get into a fight on the server, to make things easier and more 'roleplay orientated' I type "*Roll attack modifier*" and then add my "Strength" modifier to it. Then, I ask the other guy what his armor class is, and if my roll plus my armor class is higher, then I check what weapon i'm using, and then type *roll 1d6* if it's a rapier (say) or *roll 1d8* if it's a longsword and so on. Then, I add my strength modifier to it, and I get on to the DM's with a DM tell and inform them that i've just damaged the other guy for however much my total was. The DM then comes in and 'removes' the hitpoints from the other guy and informs them to roleplay that they've been damaged. Then, we repeat with the other guy, and then back to me, and so on and so forth until one of us has had all of his hitpoints removed by the DM.

(Sorry, sorry, sorry, it's not that silly an idea but I'm a sarky &^%$£ sometimes! You get my point though. Like Howland said, if you want to do something specific like trip a guy up and he agrees to it, it's great, go for it! Otherwise, well... use Knockdown and see my favored KNOCKDOWN : CRITICAL HIT flash up. (God I love it when I see that.))

heh heh - ok u know i dont mean that at all....more along the lines of what kotenku said.

easy example - arm wrestle would be a STR vs STR roll. or if some attempts to dodge a punch - a DEX vs DEX to see if u get hit. then, if they get hit, STR vs CONS (i would guess) to see how hard it would hurt.

err, guessing its just not made for the server - just seemed intresting cos there is a lot of pvp and might give lower lvls a bit of a chance and maybe rogues and wizards or what not against those real tough barberien and paladins

Thats the point of being really tough barbarians, paladins and fighters. Your supposed to be hard to fight physically. All things have different strengths adn weaknesses. Those three classes are adept at the more physical side of things.

yeah true - and I guess you dont expect a wizard to get into a punch in the first place place. and rogues have other advantages
