Rights?...
*snrk* What rights? You don't have any rights. Who gave you the idea that you have "rights"? I'll arrest them for public nuissance!
Basic human freedoms? Sure. You're free to shut up any time now, pal.
What do you mean, abuse? You broke the law. We defend the law. If I need to beat you into submission so I can grab evidence of confiscate something, that's part of the job. Ha, abuse?
Racism, what's that? Is that one of those fruity elf words? Geez, you're in Sanctuary: Speak Common, stupid! Oh, it means hating on another race? I get it. Okay, I'm racist against those stinky dwarves. They need to wash those beards or I'm gonna cut them off. What, is that a bad thing? They -stink-!
Thank you. *bows*

Probably trying to explain how things ar esupposed to work in FR and all guards go through seeing that it can be told in a tell. Actually anybody who thinks they have rights generally does'nt read the forums LTS so this is a waste of time.

Naga has it mostly right except for the last part. I think a lot of people don't get it, honestly.
Sanctuary. Has. No. Bill. Of. Rights.
Freedom of Speech, Press, Assembly, etc, are nonsense. There was never a first amendment. The closest thing to it in EfU is probably freedom of religion.
Don't get upset OOCly, that you're being discriminated against because of something entirely IC.
If my character refuses to bring you on a quest because you've got a criminal record or you refuse to put on pants, or because you happen to be an orog, or what the hell ever else, then it's not because I don't like you OOCly, it's because you have a criminal record, or you won't put pants on, or you're a friggin orog.

I thought this had to do with the setting, but, oh well.
Yeah, Coat n' Coo is the OOC voice of my charming editorial. That's the ticket.

LOL.
It's so true. A Watch member can basically beat the crap out of you for no reason and claim it was because you were being a public nuisance. :P
(In fact there seems to be an upsurge in the number of Watchman so that means there is also an upsurge of the number of incidents like the one above.)
If anyone is to blame, it's the Council for the very reason Kotenku stated - Sanctuarians have. No. Rights. People should be more informed on how the system works - don't complain to the Watch - complain to the Councilors. They are your elected representatives and they are the only ones who can do anything about it. If they won't do anything, run for Council. Or kill the Councilors and stage a take over. Or kill Watchman and burn down the Watchhouse in a revolt.
Most importantly, don't get angry OOC. Take action, take revenge, make them pay - all in character and in game. ;)

Well that's not necessarily true.
We can't beat the crap out of you for no reason, ICly. If a Watchman were to assault someone for loitering, without even giving that person a warning, or a request to move or anything, then the Watchman is probably going to get in trouble for assault. If not fired altogether.
But uh. *cough* that's sort of a FOIG thing.

I believe that the players have a responsibility to play true to themselves. Sanctuary may not have a basic system of rights-perhaps the PCs came from the Dalelands, where specific Dales accord certain freedoms and rights. Perhaps they came from Evermeet, where they are accustomed to certain personal freedoms and regulations. Perhaps they came from Waterdeep, perhaps Calimshan, perhaps Shou Lung, perhaps Halruua, all of which will grant different cultural backgrounds, and different levels of restriction on personal freedoms, rights, and responsibilities.
Just remember, before you judge the person on the other side of the screen for being just some silly American who can't understand the way Forgotten Realms works and who is just RPing being an American bully in Sanctuary, maybe they are actually RPing being from a culture where things are different than Sanctuary, or perhaps their minds were muddled by long years of confusion and slavery under the toiling hardships of the Drow, the mindflayers, or the Duergar. Perhaps they're expecting more once they've finally found freedom, only to realize that the cruel, vicious Sanctuary Watch, and goverment, is ready to replace their former slavers in a much more covert and nefarious manner.
Instead of automatically thinking that everyone on Forgotten Realms is the same in terms of culture and personality, why not just keep it in-character, instead of coming to the forums and ranting about how no one plays like you want them to play? How do you think the person on the other side of the screen feels when they see stuff like this, and know that you feel their roleplay wasn't good enough?
How are they ever going to cope?

Heh, the Watch bullies Melrick -all- the time. He's well aware that there isn't anything he can do, so he throws a smart ass remark and walks off and/or cooperates.
Example, just the other day Taddle threatened to throw Melrick in jail for slander, and when Melrick pointed out that there wasn't a law against slander, he threatened to throw him in jail for being a public nuisance. What did Melrick do? He laughed at Taddle and said he would go stand in the Inn which was private property. :P

Kotenku said: Sanctuary has no bill of rights, and i said: So?
There are a lot of countrys with similar rights to America that have no bill of rights, man.
And suit can you pls translate what you said in a two man conversation not a watchman beating a mute.
And Sancuary needs more laws to support the watch, time for Tyrish hippies!
