In reference to this:
Repose Domain!
Spells: Death Ward (2), Slay Living (4), Undeath to Death (5)
Abilities: Transport Corpse
an ability scripted along the lines of the Watch's arrest wands that transports a corpse in safety to the Mausoleum
What do you all think?
The Spells are all spells from the actual repose domain in the sourcebooks, and the ability is the most appropriate thing I could come up with that shouldn't be too hard to script. Although I know corpses can be very buggy, so those who know more about that kind of scripting please suggest other appropriate scriptable abilities.

Due to certain restrictions (naming, mostly) I don't think there are any other canon domains that can be added. I definitely tried to get Repose in, the first time around.

not quite sure what that means Arrrrkov.
what are naming restrictions?

Essentially, there is only so much space to add new domains into the code.
They left some "spots" open, and Arkov has filled them all.

this is fair enough.
I do not wish to disparage Arkov's particularly fine work on the new domains... but when I was compiling the info for deities on EfU and making note of the updates for Monster/Dead deities, I did notice one thing.
Fungus domain.
What is this doing here? Despite its obvious setting appropriateness, it isn't a canon domain as far as I know and nor does it seem to replace any particular domain (as Sea Caves replaces Ocean). And the only God currently holding this domain according to the forum listings is Ghaunadaur.
I know this is slightly off topic, but I do kinda feel that something like Repose domain would be considerably more useful in the "slot" currently occupied by Fungus because a) it affects more deities, b) its canon, and c) the gods affected are currently out of whack because with their current domains they have no real connection to death which is a central facet of their dogma.

Fungus isn't a canon domain, but besides Ghaunadaur I'd wager Psilofyr recognizes that domain as well. Of course, that's a somewhat moot point what with there being no myconids, but it may change in 1.69.
It's a valid point, nonetheless, and as long as Psilofyr isn't accessible as a PC deity, the spot does indeed seem a little wasted. I'd vote for this.

Arkov may be able to provide a more complete explanation, but as I understand it we weren't able to invent the names at all. Basically the domains selected already existed as name-strings buried in the guts of NWN, all Arkov was able to do was to summon them up, give them spells, and make them accessible. So, the word "Repose" didn't exist as a possibility... but Fungus and Sea Caves did. I guess what happened was that Bioware had plans for all these other different domains, just didn't finish them. Unfortunately, there is no "Repose" name-string... either way, we can't adjust the domains at all without making everyone re-download the override which would be a huge pain for our playerbase.

Howland got it pretty much right. :D
The only correction is that Bioware likely didn't have plans for these other domains -- the name strings were summoned up from entirely unrelated parts of NWN (for example, the names of the races, "Halfling", "Dwarf", "Drow", etc, or monsters, "Ooze"). Finding these involved searching through 110980 distrinct possibilities in the NWN TLK file for strings that made sense as domain names.
There's no limitation on the number of spots. In fact, the only limitation right now is the naming restrictions.

I see.
thank you for the explanation!
and yes, as for howland's comment regarding redownloading the 2da file, I agree this may be annoying for much of the playerbase.
So, if Repose is not able to be taken on (although I imagine "Rest" or something similar may work as a name... but meh, the arguments about the 2da file still stand)....
what is to become of Jergal, Urogalan, Osiris and Kelemvor? Death domain retained? Sun domain instead? No real rush here, but I just feel that whatever the decision, it should affect all four and not just Kelemvor as it currently stands.

Oh, I didn't even notice that. That's another thing he didn't get exactly right, actually. If we only
add domains, you won't
need to re-download the file unless you want to get the new domains. The circumstances under which everybody would need to redownload would be 1) if a domain were removed, or 2) if a domain were changed.
